Hi All

I am very concerned about the Galaxy Powershift Gearbox since reading all the problems that owners have had with this gearbox since its introduction. It does not seem to last very long before developing serious faults compared to the old type automatic boxes and the faults are usually very expensive to repair.

The faults are so common that customers with these gearboxes in Australia are taking Ford to court on the grounds that these gearboxes are not fit for purpose.

I have a 2012 2.0 tdci Titanium X which has a powershift box, it has covered only 53000 miles in the 4 years I have owned it and recently developed a fault. It would only change up into 3rd gear but would not go any further. I called Ford Assist and managed to get it back to my dealer where it had been serviced regularly and have a service plan to enable me to spread the cost of servicing. They checked it out and said that the valve body needed replacing at a cost of £1825. The gearbox had its oil and filter change at the 32000 mile service at a cost of £218 so it has had all the service that Ford recommend although I thought the price of this oil change rather excessive considering the charge for a similar oil change on a conventional automatic box.

Before going ahead with the repair I spoke with a local Automatic Gearbox Specialist to see if the charge for this valve body was normal he said it was usual as these boxes are constantly going wrong, I asked him if any manufacturer made a good automatic and he said none of the German cars are any better they all use the same type of gearbox and they all know about the problems, he went on to name a few manufacturers, Mercedes,BMW, Audi, VW, Volvo. I asked what manufacturers he would recommend he said try the Japanese. All in all I wonder if any other Galaxy owners with this gearbox have had similar problems, as it does not seem to me that this gearbox is fit for purpose, having read all the problems other owners have had with this box.

I would like to add that I am 67 and not a boy racer so my vehicle is driven well not thrashed.

Regards
