bobafettv Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 does anyone know what type of bulb is used in the front sidelamps as I have one out from what I can gather getting to it is a hassle so I would like to have a replacement ready so I only have to remove the housing once Quote
davetech Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 It's a "wedge" bulb. I've replaced mine with LED ones; they look great. Quote
bobafettv Posted August 14, 2016 Author Report Posted August 14, 2016 cool will get them ordered Quote
nickcockman Posted August 20, 2016 Report Posted August 20, 2016 I've just replaced mine with some LED - think they are W5W 501. One only lasted a couple of hours use but replacement seems fine. LEDs seem to be a bit hit and miss... :( I did the driver side by removing the headlight (two screws) and you can just about get to it to remove and replace. Passenger side is a pain. You have to remove the whole fog lamp unit. One bolt underneath that you can just about see if you shine a light through one of the holes near the hole to get to the bolt. Then I managed to lever the unit out. Scratched the surround a little. It has clips at top and the whole unit sort of comes out towards the centre of the car slightly - if you see what I mean. Good luck - make sure you don't break the unit! I used a rag around a flat head screwdriver to lever with. Also, I found the LED lights so bright that I stuck a couple of bits of masking tape to reduce the glare. Otherwise I think it might irritate drivers in front through their mirrors! ;) Quote
xavier Posted November 14, 2016 Report Posted November 14, 2016 How did you disconnect the connector from the back of the lights? I seem to manage to break any clips I come across in the mk 3. Managed to destroy the little clip on my headlamp connector when trying to replace the H7 dipped bulb at the weekend. Quote
davetech Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 I remove the headlight bulb with the connector still attached, then lever it off with a small flat screwdriver. Quote
xavier Posted November 15, 2016 Report Posted November 15, 2016 I looked at that Dave but there didn't seem to be enough clearance to get something in the front of the clip so to speak as the clip is quite far down the body of the headlight. Maybe if I had one with a right-angle at the end? In future I think I will just replace the bulb without disconnecting the cable, I think I could get the light out enough to open the covers and change the bulb without having to disconnect it, of course I won't remember this in 2 years or so and will no doubt be back on here bemoaning the feeble plastic clips!
