leepoll Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice. I have an engine management light come and the stored codes were P1116- engine coolent tempreture sensor out of self test range. P1103- mass airflow sensor in range/higher than expected. The car is a mk2 v6 and is showing no symptoms. Any ideas what these codes mean and what is the possible cause? Could they be linked or is it just a coincidence that both faults have happened at the same time? Also if you delete the codes the light doesn't come back on until you start the car again. So basically, you can delete the codes, go on your journey and the light doesn't come back until you restart. Any advice here would be gratefully received. Thanks Quote
BrianH Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Maybe coincidence, hard to say. The maf code will be some sort of problem to do with the sensor mounted in the air intake - check the wiring to it - is it plugged in, and is there any damage to the wires? (find air filter, trace where the big hose goes to on the engine, the airflow sensor will be somewhere on that hose length, I haven't seen a v6 to tell you further on that) Same applies to the coolant sensor - could be a faulty sensor or damage to the wiring. It may be the case that only one of them is bringing the light on, and the other has been sat in its current state for a while. You might find it worth scanning with VCDS as most people here would use that over an OBD reader on the v6 models and the diesels. So any previous posts are likely to contain the vcds fault codes not the obd ones. Quote
Stevemc0 Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 I would also check vacuum pipes for any leaks especially where the pcv valve joins onto air intake ( back of engine) I had a similar problem and it turned out that I had a couple of split vacuum pipes which was letting in more air into air intake Quote
