tamworthleon Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Something else up with my 04 plate tdi 130.From when i first had it, when you turn the key but not start the engine all of the warning lights would come on and then go out except the battery light and handbrake warning light. The oil light would go out without the engine running, is this normal. Reason i ask because running it tonight the light goes out without the engine running and after a few mins of the engine running the light has come on. This is quite a worry but as the gearbox has been out im wondering if somethings been knocked. Any advise would be greatThanks Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 17, 2016 Author Report Posted May 17, 2016 Its just with my Petrols and the old alhambra i had the oil light would not go out till i started the engine. If this oli light on the 130 is ment to stay on till the engine starts i've got issues there already Quote
BrianH Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Would sound like a dodgy oil pressure sensor to me. I think they all come on but would expect the oil and battery to stay on till the engine has started. It should only indicate that the oil pressure is lacking so would expect it to be on all the time personally. Might be worth investigation at the sender - if you see the same with the engine running or not then suggests its dead to me. Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 Yeah was thinking the same. Going to change it today and see what happens Quote
sparky Paul Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 That's got to be your first port of call. If it goes off before starting the engine, then somethings kaput. There are reasons why the oil pressure would drop when the oil is hot, but start with a new sender. Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 My work mates vw bora as a pd in it and his does the same thing. Turn the key but not start the engine the lights go out. Just want to find someone with a galaxy with a pd in to see what theres does. Engine never got a chance to get hot. Plenty of oil in it. Light is flashing so going to get one at lunch and give it a try Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 No new switch and still does it :( Going to drop the sump and take a look at the strainer and oil pump. It will tick over all day without it coming on and it's only if I give it a few high revs it starts to flicker. I'm thinking it's crap in the strainer Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 I have a 2005 TDI 130. Mine does the same on startup. Looked in the handbook and at switch on it's supposed to do that in Position II (before turning over). If it starts flashing when the engine is running it indicates a problem. I think it said flashes yellow for low oil level and red for low pressure. I left the handbook in the car. I can check again if you want, but it might not be quick as I'm moving in a coupe of weeks and the panic has set in now I've started packing/sorting out garage/emptying loft! Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 19, 2016 Author Report Posted May 19, 2016 Thanks mate thats fine. I thought that was the case. Going to have a the sump off later and see what i find. Will let everyone know my findings Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 19, 2016 Author Report Posted May 19, 2016 Thick oil in the bottom of the sump found. Thick enough to cause me issues, may well be. Im replacing the oil pump anyway, cleaning out the strainer but to be fair its not blocked just had all this thick crud all around it and replacing with fresh oil and new oil filter. If this does not solve the problem im at a loss Quote

tamworthleon Posted May 20, 2016 Author Report Posted May 20, 2016 Always steered clear of flushing. Last time i flushed an engine 2.3 galaxy it cost me an engine. Cam chain started rattling alot of top of other things so i've always steered clear since Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 20, 2016 Author Report Posted May 20, 2016 Started and light is out and stays out. Happy days Quote
sparky Paul Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 Good news, at least it was worth the effort. I'm with you on avoiding flushing, especially engines with a few miles on them. Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 20, 2016 Author Report Posted May 20, 2016 Yeah very true. Still all is good the only things left to do is replace the intercooler to turbo pipe as I think it's leaking and find that noise I posted about a week ago. Hard to pin point it but will find it with some help lol Quote
Wesley Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 Hello. Glad you got your problem sorted. Just wondering if you could tell me where the switch is located. I have been looking today as I have oil light issues and I can't seem to find it. Thanks Quote
tamworthleon Posted May 21, 2016 Author Report Posted May 21, 2016 What year mate. Mines an 04 plate and its under the oil filter housing on the block just above the sump (front of the engine). Quite hard to get to i found. If its an early on they are located on the side of the oil filter housing Quote
