Guest V6KID Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Just had my rear tyres replaced at an excellent cost of Quote
MrT Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 At that price were the tyres reinforced? They need to be for the Galaxy. Quote
MrT Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 I should add that you should need to check before travelling abroad as in some countries it is illegal to have tyres rated lower than the top speed of the vehicle. I note on my Galaxy the originals are 215/55-ZR16-97W. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 H-rated will still comfortably be above the vehicle's top speed. The only problem may come if you have a bad accident and the isnurance co may refuse to pay out as you had incorrect spec tyres fitted. May be worth a phone call to tell them and get the OK - but you do need to check that they are reinforced! Quote
cr3sp0 Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Excellent price if there a branded tyre - cheapest I could see for Dunlops was Quote
Guest V6KID Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Yes they are re-inforced. Michelin HX MXM Extra Load as the originals were. The only difference as I say is the speed rating. Have just checked and yes my others are W not V as I stated. Will try checking with Fraud UK..... Quote
Guest V6KID Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 cr3sp0 - Yes that is an ALL inclusive price Quote
cr3sp0 Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Thanks V6KID - might just go down there tomorrow. Front two are looking on the limit and I don't want to take any risks when we travel to France in a few weeks time. Even with the joining fee I'll still save between Quote
italiastar Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 How can you tell whether they are re-inforced - I know you can ask the fitter, but would your average ****-*** fitter know? Quote
MrT Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 It is usually written on the side. When you look at the tyres, the load rating is also an indicator as in my tyres are 215/55-ZR16-97W. The "97" means that that tyre will carry a load of 730KG which would usually mean re-inforced. However these are just load indicators and you should always check that any make of tyre is suitable by reading its specs of if they are not available with the manufacturer before fitting it. On cars like this it is never a good idea just to buy a cheap brand just because it is the right size, you need a lot of faith in a tyre to carry 2 tons at nearly 140 mph. Quote
Denis Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 How can you tell whether they are re-inforced...? The Dunlop 2020's and Conti Ecosport have 'Reinforced' marked clearly on the sidewall, suspect the other manufacturers would do the same. Quote

Here Here - I totally agree - I'd go as far to say that this applies on any car. Some people would spend more money on shoes or trainers than tyres. "****-***" - hint - first word starts with K - second word ends with T Quote
ALARM MAN Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Budget tyres HR rated 2 number plus 4 wheel track Quote
seatkid Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 1. Decide exactly what tyre you want. Give tyre places no scope to steer you to their top profit range.. 2. Phone around all your local places particularly independants - try price match ruse and discount for 4 rather than two. (Don't forget VAT balancing valves etc.) 3. Avoid popular MOT test times - e.g. end Jul begining Aug PLEASE Don't skimp on tyres and brakes - you could kill yourself (or someone else) You'd be surprised how close top makes can come to budget if you try. Last year I got four Continental Ecocontact 3 (upmarket range) for my Golf fitted and balanced for Quote
