darthvader Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Hi.I have a Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi 2002 - I am currently replacing the stub shaft from the transmission due to spline wear - I have bought a replacement but I need your help. When I removed the stub shaft from the transmission housing the tiny brass coloured ring disintegrated (not in the box, thank goodness), problem is I didn't see which way it went round. Should this have the bevelled edge/side pointing into the flange cap and spring or should it be pointing to the end of the spline? Also does the grooves on this locate in anything inside the trans? Any advice appreciated. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 As I recall the bevelled edge goes into the gearbox. The grooves are I believe to facilitate the passage of oil. Quote
darthvader Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Thanks Bigjeeze - thought that might be the case. Does the spring clip just slide up to it? Quote
darthvader Posted February 4, 2016 Author Report Posted February 4, 2016 Thought so too - thanks Quote
daddyfixit Posted February 4, 2016 Report Posted February 4, 2016 done mine a few months ago, I do remember needing a big lever bar to push the stub into the box against the spring pressure so I could get the centre allen key to get started on its threads in the differential.?? Quote
