can anyone help please.

Have a Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi 2002 which has recently developed a scraping grinding nose from front n/s wheel area.

with all the rain I thought it might be a stone stuck, and was hoping something simple as short on funds and unfortuntely not great on mechanical knowledge.

No garage open but really need to use car.

taken wheel off and turned by hand I can't see anything obviously wrong.

Have gently tapped all round disc with a rubber mallet and apart small bits of rust from very top of disc nothing else came loose.

turning the disc the noise seems to be present only on about 20% of the wheel in one area!

think we had brake pads changed inside last 15,000 km

Any ideas please of what may be the cause

Sounds like a worn out brake pad - is the disc smooth on both sides or are there rough areas?

Does the caliper move - is it loose on its bracket?

Does the brake actually work if you get someone to push the pedal while you turn the wheel? and does it release when the pedal is released? (siezed or sticking caliper will wear the pads quickly)

I had a loud squeal from the N/S front wheel. I took off the wheel and found no scuffing or scraping etc. I looked everywhere and nothing, turned the disc fast and no noise and the same with the wheel on. When i looked at the disc backing plate it was away from the wheel etc and no marks just brake dust. I tweaked it 100% straight and noise gone. I can't explain why there was no marks or scuffs where it was rubbing on whatever but noise gone. Sometimes it's a simple thing staring you in the face that is giving you grief.
