Granty64 Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Hello everyone, I,ve been having problems with my heater fan. The usual thing happened the fan would only work on 3&4. The after a few days the heater fan stopped there was a slight burning smell but nothing to bad. After reading a few post on here I picked one up from a local scrap yard.when this was installed it blew No 22 fuse (30amp) I renewed the fuse and the same thing occurred! So I put the original resistor back in and again it blew again! I got another resistor (scrap yard) and the same thing happened. I then disconnect the fan and it blew the fuse? I also tried to see if the fan would work with the resistor disconnect the fuse didn't blow and the fan wouldn't work!! If any of you guys could shed any light on this issue I would be very greatfull. Quote
BrianH Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Theres a bunch of wires in the passenger footwell area that run near the door - have a check that these haven't shorted out in some way, also any of the other sections of wire near the resistor pack. You should be able to put 12v across the fan and see it spin up, the resistor pack drops the current according to the setting selected to control the speed. If you've got easy access to the scrapyard it may be worth trying the selector switch? Quote
Granty64 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Report Posted November 18, 2015 Hello Brian, thanks very much for the advise. I will try what you have suggested. Is the selector switch part of the climate control unit? Regards j Quote
BrianH Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Don't know on the climate control question as mine doesn't have it to compare. Out of the bits you've replaced have you discovered the source of the burning smell? Quote
chromedome Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 I believe the resistor pack is different on the climate control and manual system. On the climate control it is know as the hedgehog and is normally red in colour. Quote
