B@rnstormer Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 Hello all, The external plastic trim strip on the rear driver's side door of our 06 plate MkIII has started to peel off, beginning at the edge of the door where the hinges are. I don't know what happened but I'm guessing something got caught on it and pulled it off slightly. It was sticking out enough that when the back door was opened the strip caught on the front door and now it's been peeled back around 4 or 5 inches. It looks like it's stuck on with a couple of strips of sticky-backed foam. I've tried pressing it back down but it doesn't stick for long so presumably the adhesive strips have got dirty. Should I just glue it down with epoxy or something like that? Is there something better I could use? The strip's not damaged so I don't want to have to replace the whole thing if I can get away with it (replacement from Ford is part number 1592237 I believe, about £20 +vat plus painting), but if I do buy a new one does anybody know if it comes with the sticky strips to stick it to the car? Thanks Quote
gregers Posted October 10, 2015 Report Posted October 10, 2015 same problem on my smax, only trouble is mine bent back to much and snapped a bit off,try and find some really STICKY d/sided tape or a decent adhesive to get it to stay there,as now it has been bent back a tad it will always pull off. B@rnstormer Posted November 29, 2015 Author Report Posted November 29, 2015 I pulled the whole thing off today, before it came off on it's own and hit somebody or their car. I'll probably just epoxy it back on. Quote
gregers Posted November 29, 2015 Report Posted November 29, 2015 i seem to think these things are held on with stuff from 3m.if its bent a tad i would try and straighten it out for a few days before re-installation. Quote
