Nick Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 What a pain in the arse! First wheel took 3 hours! Other wheel 1 hour. The biggest problem was getting the cylinders to go back in. Best result was to adapt a puller that I had to crank the cylinders back. That Ford tool must make this job easy!?What does everyone else use to push the cylinders back? Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 I have used two methods to return the pistons on the rear calipers: First method was a two leg puller with the legs rotated 180' and used to push against the caliper whilst rotating the piston and winding in the puller screw. Second method was to use a valve spring compression clamp utilising the spring pressure to push the piston back as it is rotated. Not sure what the Ford official tool is like and the second method meant about 3 mins to replace each side pads. Hope this gives some ideas. Quote
buford_t_justice Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 I bought a tool from Halfords years ago to help with this. I can't remember how much it costs but with the caliper off (and the cap off the brake reservoir) it consists of two metal plates and a bolt. You put one plate against the cylinder and the other against the inside of the caliper. The bolt threads through both of these and you attached a socket and simply wind the cylinder back in. 2 mins of a job. Quote
Guest kd035050 Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 the way I did it last week and I did front and back in 2 hours was to ramove the calipers and disks, stick new disks on still leave the old pads in the guides and use a big screw driver to press the pistons backin using the ild pads to press against. I had no trouble what so ever. Remember and take the cap off the brake resivour Quote
