PembsPanther Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Hello Got my first Galaxy the other day and friend fell in love with it as well so we went to view a 2000 Mk2 1.9td that has just passed its MOT, nice and shiny. had lots of work done to it but high miles at 180k and was being advertised as perfect, we got there and indeed it was a nice car, engine ran lovely and good turbo as well but there was a rattle that seemed to be coming from behind the engine towards the passenger side front like a rattle is the best way I can describe it, the guy could see I was about to question it so said I have had that looked at and it is a pulley and then pointed out what looked like some kind of a tensioner of the left hand side of the engine that was moving around a little but the sound was not coming from here and it was more mechanical, anyway we took it for a test drive and literally as my friend was ready to drive off the noise had gone, I clicked straight away it was when she pushed in the clutch so I got out and got her to do it a few times to make sure, took it for a test drive, drove lovely but noise there when idling, immediately I thought release bearing and then I remember reading about dual mass flywheels but am not up to speed on them, so we got back told the guy, showed the guy no no no he says it has only a few months ago had a new dual mass flywheel and clutch at a cost of £900 at the garage up the road, great I said it should be warrantied then do you have the receipt? erm no, oh ok time to go me thinks. So what do you think it was? Quote
BrianH Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 £900 sounds a bit too cheap to replace a DMF - It might be enough to cover a single mass flywheel conversion, but the general theme on here seems to be that it isn't a good idea on these to fix the problem in that manner. It sounds like it could be the release bearing to me, but without taking it apart you can't be sure. Depends how much he wanted for it really - It sounds to me that hes trying to get rid of it before it requires expensive attention so think you were probably wise to steer clear Quote
PembsPanther Posted August 6, 2015 Author Report Posted August 6, 2015 Well thats the thing he was trying to sell it as mint at £1295, friend had already said £1000 was the max she would pay and he agreed, but even at a grand for an x reg td with 180k on the clock that is top end mondey and he had said it was perfect so that is what we expected it to be, I knew I was right to tell her to walk away phew :) Quote
xavier Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 I have that in mine, fairly sure it'll be needing a new clutch and DMF at some point though I've managed to nurse it for a couple of years. Seems fine when it's warmed up though, which is wierd. Quote
