Guest Bones Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Hi all. I'm new on to this forum (signed up today :D ) and I pickup a Galaxy 1.9TDI Zetec registered March 2000 (W) in a weeks time. When I test drove the car (lovely to drive) I thought the remote central locking wasn't working. I pressed the key fob and saw a small red light on top of the door panel flashing. On questioning the dealer about this he informed me that remote central locking didn't start on the Galaxy until 2002 unless it was a Ghia. This seem bizarre when you consider how long remote central locking has been around and how much these are new!!! Is this so or is he leading me a merry dance? Many thanks in advance. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Welcome to the forum; your dealer is talking out of an orifice other than his mouth, as many of them do. Not sure when remote locking became standard, but it was an option for many years even when it wasn't standard. This topic has been covered before and IIRC a good dealer should be able to tell you from the VIN number if remote locking is fitted or not. AlarmMan, Nimrod and others (other members of this forum) will tell you the best after-market system to fit if you don't already have remote locking. Quote
_dg Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Is yours the new or old shape? AFAIK, the new shape should have it, the old one might have it Mine came without a remote locking key, and because of the change over it would need to be connected to the diagnostic computer to determine if the electronics were in place - some older versions may have some of the newer electronics and cabling, or it may have been fitted as an option. I eventually bought a kit from www.candrenterprises.co.uk - its the only one I found that had a keycover remote unit instead of a keyring fob. Quote
_dg Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I notice you have a key fob remote, which causes the red light to flash. This seems to indicate that remote locking is fitted, but is either not working, or the key fob is not programmed to your car. Search the forum for 're-programming' Quote

Guest Bones Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 :D Wow..! You guys don't hang around do you. I'm seeing the dealer on saturday and will see the car again. I should then be able to answer the sensor question. As for the shape, well I think it's a pre facelift making it an old one (bless her!) I have just had a look on the glasses website http://www.glass.co.uk which listed all the models and features of used cars. The 115bhp Zetec diesel 6 speed comes with remote ctrl locking the 110bhp Zetec diesel 5 speed doesn't, it's key. So I may have answered my own question. Dooh! However, I shall still have a look. Afterall why have a remote locking key fob without remote locking? Thanks for the help guys. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Mind you the red led flashing on the door isnt a sign of central locking! its the indicator to say either the alarm if fitted is on or that the PAT's system is operational both these are dependant on the ignition being off and the key remove and the doors being locked before the led will start to flash! 8 Quote
