Hi all happy Friday.

I need to replace the tensioner on my old Mk1 2.3 Gal.  Has anyone sourced and fitted just the pulley? (not the idle pulley, the actual pulley on the tensioner). Not keen on paying £70 at EuroCar Parts unless I have to.

Cheers.
Paul.

Hi Paul,

Maybe the scrapyard could be the place for you. Have a try on Scrapyard.com I think thats what its called.

The search goes out to loads of breakers.

You can usually find what you are looking for.

Regards.

Hi, did mine on my mk1 2.3 a few months ago, got the tensioner pully wheel only off ebay, about £20, when I get home tonight I will look back on purchase history and let you know number, phone app won't let me do it on ebay!

I have a problem with finding the correct pulley for the tensioner on my 1999 2.3  Galaxy. the part that I got has a smaller thread on it than the original. Do you have a ford part number please. The eurocarpart is not the correct one for my car.

thank you.

The one you have is the idler pulley.

Not seen the eurocarparts ones, Ford ones were the same pulley - you have to remove the smaller bolt and retaining clip, and fit the centre from the old tensioner pulley.

Sparky Paul,

Thank you. There is not much left of the old one as it decided to go in a completely different direction to the car. All I have left is the bolt, a washer with 4 holes in it and a huge threaded nut that doesn't screw onto anything.

Sounds like you have the right pulley, but may be missing other bits. I remember doing the same as described above (swapping the bolt over to the new pulley).

Your going to either need a new tensioner, or take a trip to the scrapyard and try to salvage the bits you require from another one. The good news is they are a common ford design so one off another should fit (you can take your pulley along to check you get the right bits)
