Just been to MoT my 1999, 2.3 Ford galaxy Mk1. Unfortunately it failed on Co emissions.

Fast idle test :-

                         CO. 1.35. Fail

                         HC. 70. Pass

                      Lamda. 0.972. Pass

Second fast idle test.

                        CO. 1.22. Fail

                        HC. 87. pass

                        Lambda. 0.965. Pass

Natural idle test.

                        CO. 1.7 Fail.

Engine oil temp. pass

Engine speed measurement. pass

Engine oil temp check, Temp gauge showed warm engine.

Could you kind folks give me any idea how to sort this out please?

Start by checking your air filter - if its clogged it may be just that causing it.

Otherwise you may need to have a look at the catalytic converter. You might find some benefit from a fuel system cleaner first though.

Hi, as Brian suggested also when was plugs last changed? I fitted the ones with 3 prongs ie three sparks to give a better burn.

then drive it like you stole it for a tad to give it a good burn out.

Looks like your catalytic converter is goosed.

Note (even if the engine is running poor/rich) the cat is there to convert CO to CO2.

Only thing i would say on the ones from ECP etc is don't expect them to last forever. Mine BARELY passed with one that had only just been fitted to replace the original one which had disintegrated into rust/holes and powered bits of cat due to misfires down to the coil pack. Waiting to see if it still works come this September.

Thank you for the help. Changed plugs, air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, BG44K in tank, just done bottom ball joint, next is handbrake cable & then that is it. Does anyone know th part number for the bulb that illuminates the heater knobs & also the clock please?

7204768 or 95NW 13464 AB is for the heater controls

1006579 or 95VW 1364 BA for the clock

When i've swapped them i found the only way I could get them was by removing bulb and taking to motor factors to identify - ford didn't have any and couldn't/wouldn't get any in either. This was the dash clocks bulbs though. Incidently a year later its gone again though.
