After not finding many impartial reviews on them I took the plunge and bought a pair of Xtron HD909 DVD Headrests.

I thought I'd share my feedback for other's benefits.

Overall, I'm fairly pleased. I had one dissapointment and a couple of minor issues.

I have a Titanium X with black leather interior so I opted for the faux black leather. It is a reasonable match. You don't notice any difference from a distance and it's only if you start hard enough will you see the change of colour.

They're quite easy to fit. You have to use the 14mm inserts that are supplied with it. I did notice one problem though, the inserts slightly restrict the headrest adjustment spring so you have to file down the hole in the supplied insert about 1mm to give the spring greater retention strength. That's easy to do - not a problem, but you wonder why you should be doing it. Even then it is not quite strong enough. The metal pole has indentations for the sping bar to hold against but they're not deep enough. If you want your headrest higher up it will have a tendency to drop down.

They're wider than the factory headrests. That's obvious as you've bought a 9" screen - but it does mean you have very slightly restricted vision when looking across your shoulder at the kids.

I think my biggest disappointment is that you cannot adjust the angle of the headrest. Compared to the factory ford headrest, the cushion is about an inch further back than normal which means you can't rest your head as easily on it as you did before. I wonder whether on a long journey I'll notice the difference.

The screens themselves are fine. As with all of these screens, they come with an odd resolution so you will either end up with black bars top and bottom or you will zoom in and lose some left and right picture. But that will be the case whatever model you opt for.

The radio transmission is good - star wars coming through the car speakers sounds like you're in the cinema!

In summary

  • Cheap
  • Good screen
  • Nice wireless transmission
  • Colour a reasonable match
  • Height adjustment not strong enough
  • Cannot adjust the headrest angle - may be uncomfortable on a long drive

If anyone is interested I will post photos and wiring instructions.
