Hi to everyone,

I would like to share my recent experience and ask for your opinions, I will be most grateful if someone could advise me please? Please bear in mind, I have got very poor knowledge on cars, the job has done could be a walk through park for you guys, but for me it was a massive challenge,

I will cut the long story very short, I am hoping No one will get bored,

10/06/2015, I got my car serviced, Oil and Oil, Air, Cabin, filters has been changed, my car has been losing coolant, Mechanic has told me, he has done every possible checks to find out why car was losing coolant,

The mechanic has been doing service on my cars last 15 years, I do trust him very much, he has returned car back to me with no good news, he had done every possible check to find out leaks, there is not any sign to be seen,

so he has come to conclusion, there may be an internal leak, that he suspects EGR cooler causes the leak, it is because he hasn’t got proper pressure testing kit, he reckons it will be good idea to get it checked with some other garage that he gets all his MOTs done for vehicles he has serviced, he has already got price of £446+vat and plus labour...

Right, I want to come to the point what I have done since then, I have decided to get into engine myself, either I would have fixed it or made it worse…

Very shortly, I shall tell what I have done,

Firstly, I have purchased, a coolant Tank with cap, Green Antifreeze, an EGR coolant (second hand), EGR blanking plate, Re-gas container for Air con.,

1-      I have done a quick inspection from top and bottom of the engine, it has got some oil spillage but it is not very fresh, I assume, engine has discharged some of extra oil where it was over maximum, then I have checked for coolant leakage signs, this is what I have noticed,

2-      I have removed wipers and covers to reach EGR cooler, I have removed existing one from its place and took it out, to be honest I did not see any difference between existing one and the one I have bought, no sign of coolant inside, it is dry as it should be, I have installed the one I have bought,

3-      I emptied coolant via radiator tap, then poured a bottle of flusher with plain water, started engine to circulate, again emptied and done same again, left it alone for next day, same job once again till I have filled with antifreeze,

4-      I have blanked EGR from Bottom end,NO dash light so far....

5-      I have re-gassed air con.

I drove car around, heater has never been as good as, also air con. Never been as cold as,

So, I assume I have succeed on that one,

all around Coolant Hoses have got good pressure when engine is hot, I have run engine for a while without cooler tank cap on, assuming it would help air in system burp out, it is now 4 days, I do keep an eye on coolant, couple of occasion it has gone down slightly and I have topped it up, I am not sure if it is because coolant settling or leaking, I am about to take 100 mile journey this weekend, just to see how a long journey will affect,

Now I have got couple of concerns,

1-      Coolant gets foam, there is a small hose runs from radiator top to coolant, It causes foaming when it is circulating,http://quupy.com/galaxy/rad.end_resize.jpghttp://quupy.com/galaxy/coolant%20end_resize.jpghttp://quupy.com/galaxy/foam_resize.jpg

2-      I do smell some exhaust in the car since I blanked EGR, I do not know if it is the reason that I smell it, but since I have blanked, the car has got more power, for example, when I accelerate, it fills like pulling faster,

3-      If I am not mistaken, maybe I do, coolant system on this car takes 8 litres, however after I have never had more than 3-4 litres during draining the system, my final filling was 3 litre antifreeze and then about a half of litre top up,

thank you all in advance....
