Guest Mr.David Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 I don't know if it's a conincidence, but I had a flood the other day and now the ABS comes on on the front-left when when I brake sometimes and there's a wierd droning sound coming from the engine bay on the passenger side of the bonnet. Do I have to go to Ford to get it fixed or is there an easier way? - the ABS warning light doesn't come on by the way Quote
Guest Mr.David Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Its the driveshaft to the left wheel - thee is some kind of ladder assembly that the sensor leans against and this has rotted or something, and apparently the whole driveshaft needs to be replaced - unless anyone knows otherwise. Is 50 quid a good price for re-gassing the aircon? Quote
davec Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 The speed sensor ring broke om my 97 ghiax and damaged the sensor wire, had the joint only replaced but most dealers want u to have complete drive shaft, think u have to reset ABS on ford computer Quote
davec Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 also i paid 100 for "air con service" which i think was a fancy name for regassing Quote
Guest Mr.David Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 They added some dye to the aircon when they re-gassed it and had a look round 20 mins later with a torch - any leaks would show up in the form of a big mess in my driveway apparently, and touch wood there isn't anything so far. The dye was a Quote
Guest nimrod Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 The dye my AC guy use's only shows up under a UV light, so unless you have UV lights outside your house I would think your ok :D it would have to be big leak to get past the engine tray and onto the drive in less than 20 minutes! remove the wheel and inspect the sensor ring, its as it name suggests, its a castlated ring that sits on the outside of the inner hub, if its all there in one peice and is solid? try giving it a gentle tap with a soft hammer to check its solid, while your there make sure the castelated bits are not blocked and full of dirt and that the sensor has a clear view of the ring? if the sensor is U/S it usually brings up the ABS light on the dash as its showing up as a fault this means you have normal braking and not ABS! I'm not sure if the sensor ring is a replaceble part as I cant find it on any spares lists on any of the online stores! it maybe a part of the drive shaft or at least part of the inner U J joint? 10 Quote
davec Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 i think its part of the joint, the guy who did mine is a tech in the ford training school, garages might be happier changing the drive shaft Quote
