brogon Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 My Galaxy was running fine, and i was running down the A1 for 70 miles and no problems. I then started to slow down for the exit and it started to sufer lag and loss of power when i started to move from the junction, the rev counter shows dips when i moved of from gear 1 . i had to increase the gas to get going. at each gear change down it was flat on throttle then got going ok. after i stopped the engine at my stop point i left the car for 2hrs , and then got ready to start my return home the car spins over and did no fire.i looked under the lid and found no belts snaped or blown fuses. the only work i had got done in the last week was a new water pump and drive belt fitted. can any one give me any information on how i can sort this out. the car has never had any start problems in the 4 years i have been running this Galaxy. Quote
seatkid Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 Have you recently topped up with fuel? Maybe petrol instead of diesel? Quote
seatkid Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 If its not fuel, I'd check the water pump "drive belt" which is the cambelt, did they change the tensioner and idler rollers too? If not the belt may have slipped. Check the battery voltage is healthy, more than 12.5 volts when stood, ignition off. A diagnostic scan will reveal other sensor issues that can effect starting, e.g. camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.. Quote
seatkid Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 Could also be fuel pump relay failed iirc relay 109 Quote

SilverBeast Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 You can check it yourself is on the left hand side of the engine compartment as you look at it. Is attached to the back of the air filter housing and the connector sticks out of the side of it. Quote

BrianH Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 The keys don't normally fail unless the chip has fallen out. The common cause of problems with them besides the chip going walkies is the relay that drives it fails. not sure if this is the same as the fuel pump relay on the diesels, its commonly referred to as relay 30 on the petrol models (the relay in question supplies the power to the immobiliser and fails due to dry joints on the relay). Hopefully someone can provide the right one to look at for your model. If the key works intermittently start looking at the relay. Possibly unrelated, possibly its been dodgy for a while and the attention given to the fusebox so far has been enough to make it play up more. Quote
xavier Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Is the garage using a VW type code scanner or just a "do all makes" one? The drivers door red LED light should indicate what the immobiliser is doing, is it lit / flashing when you try and start the car? Quote

brogon Posted January 20, 2015 Author Report Posted January 20, 2015 Hi all just to update you the garage that had a look at my Galaxy found it was the drive belt that was slack, i was very lucky the the car stoped. i told the garage i had a new water pump and drive belt fitted but they did not check it. i got the car back to the garage that fitted the pump and new belt. and they are sorting it out and will get my car back on thursday. Thank you all for your help. :48: Regards Brian Quote
chromedome Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Did you get your car back. I find it hard to believe that the cam belt was slack. Most garages fit a cam belt kit which includes pulleys and a tensioner. Hope there is no damage done, if so it's down to them. Quote
seatkid Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Shocking story! It very likely that some damage has been done, the pistons kissing the valves will have damaged pistons, valves and hydraulic lifters. What can I say? Even if they get it running, ask for a compression/leak down test on all cylinders, preferably this should be done at another independent garage. The garage that did the pump will try to convince you no damge has been done, but even a one tooth slip can cause damage. I would prepare to make a claim against them. Quote
