gravesyt Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 I all having read all the threads on aux heater and done a bit of fiddling it looks like my censor has gone ,( only came on when it was -0 now not at all) Is the part the same number for the censor that's sit under the wiper linkage as the one behind the front grill just can't find the any other numbercheers and merry Xmas to all Quote
insanitybeard Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) On the Mk1, the ambient air temp sensor used for the air con and temp readout looks like it's number 23 here, don't 100% trust the part numbers but it should be a reasonable guide. This diagram is for a Mk2 Galaxy as the link for the Mk1 diagram is busted but I believe shows the sensor (number 1, even though it says 'sensor- air conditioning' in the description!) in the wiper linkage area used by the booster heater to determine if it starts up or not. They are different sensors I believe. Edited December 12, 2014 by insanitybeard Quote
daddyfixit Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 try bridging the one on the wiper linkage, if it fires up the aux heater then you proved the sensor was faulty. or extend the 2 wires into the car, fit an illuminated switch so you can control it from inside the car ??? Quote
gravesyt Posted December 12, 2014 Author Report Posted December 12, 2014 Thanks gents tried the bridge test she fired up ok but very smoky but it looks like the censor is on its way out hence it only kicks in at -0 so might as well do the plug as she's 104k and never had a problem up to now Quote
gravesyt Posted December 13, 2014 Author Report Posted December 13, 2014 just to let you all know the part number for the MK1 ambient temp censor for the aux heater is 701 959 625 . also so can some one let me know is the Mk1 same as the Mk2 after 3 attempts will the heater need to be reset via vag com as the MK1 is not recognised (18) or will it reset itself when turned offcheers Quote
gregers Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 iirc no on the mk1 it resets its self,on the mk2 after 5 flame outs it then needs resetting with vag-com. Quote
