I've heard that Gal 6 speed boxes are sealed for life but dont like that idea?

Can the gearbox oil be changed and if so how as mines done 85k now?

What oil should go back in too? H

Dead easy to do.See here

I just did it with the special socket required to remove the drain/fill plugs.  The oil bottles I got had a flexible spout on so I could get it into the fill hole without a problem.

Hello.

I've used Fuchs Titan Sintofluid FE SAE 75W, as somebody mentioned that it is what VW used as OE.

It is VW G 052 178 A2 certified and there aren't many out there that conform to this certification - mainly German oil brands.

The main reason for changing the gear oil was difficult gear change in low temperatures.

As the gearbox oil mentioned has very low viscosity it took less than 2 minutes for the whole 2.25 ltr. to enter the gearbox - I had a funnel about 1 meter above the gearbox fill hole.

I used this to try and fix a notchy and slightly obstructive change between 1st and 2nd, particularly when cold.  It didn't make much difference and I still haven't got round to trying resetting the adjustment on the cables.

Here's the before and after Gearbox Oil from when I changed mine at about 105k.  Guess which is the before! (answer after picture)

No surprises, the dark stuff which I seem to recall was  a very dark brown.
