Russats Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 I'm trying to replace the strut in my MK2 Galaxy does anyone know what size that top nut is please?Biggest I have is 19mm which isn't enough, it must be 21/22mm I have a 24mm bit but that is too big Quote
sparky Paul Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 21mm. ...same as large spark plug socket. Quote
Russats Posted September 21, 2014 Author Report Posted September 21, 2014 Thank you so much! Just had to walk 3 miles to Halfords. Your reply came through just as I got there lol Quote
Russats Posted September 21, 2014 Author Report Posted September 21, 2014 Managed to fit the replacement! Turns out my nut was 22mm Still had to go back to Halfords to get a 15mm for the hub assembly. I had 2 14mm and A 16mm lol All back together for the MOT retest tomorrow Quote
sparky Paul Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 That's weird, mine were definitely 21mm, as were the replacement nuts. The hex in the centre of the shaft is 7mm, if there's anything left of it. If you are going to work on a Galaxy, 15mm and 18mm sockets and/or spanners are essential. Quote
Russats Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 Deffo 22mm, I've got most sockets now!Need a bigger tool box now though. Got a few "advisories" to sort out. Front padsHandbrake Adjustment Also needs a gearbox replacement, I'd attempt but I'm not sure if it's straight forward. Lol Quote
xavier Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 I picked up a set of impact sockets from machine mart, they have a decent range of sizes and I can use them with the cheap (but handy) 12v impact gun I have. Quote
Russats Posted October 21, 2014 Author Report Posted October 21, 2014 I may need to invest in an impact gun as I get more adventurous with the car repairs. Quote
