hi all

any ideas why my rear air con is warm while the front is cold ?  the rear only works in recirc mode according to the handbook,  so today i put a air con cleaning bomb through    put it on recirc and left it 10- mins,    came back   front cold as normal,  rear roof vents blowing warm air,  setting on the control unit is set to low 18   but still warm.    any ideas ?

Faulty rear evaporator at a guess. Someone had this problem a few weeks back but I can't remember the fix off hand.

PS. My rear air con even works in auto.

Recirculation mode just means it only draws air in from the cabin for the rear air-con (and I suspect the heating) at all times.  The front air (and heating) can draw the air either from the cabin or through the pollen filter behind the front wiper mechanism depending on the setting on the climate control.

thats what i thought,  that air from the front was cool    that circulated and was then drawn into the rear system    and blown out through the roof vent,  if it does just that   why then is there the evaporator and all the gubbins with the pipes running from the front of the car  which are the same temp,  not like the front  where one pipe is cold and the other hot.

There is a separate evaporator and associated bits for the rear a/c. They use a common compressor.

Mine drips condensation from both the front and rear units depending on humidity.

Is it gassed as a dual system?

thats the odd thing as well   when i had it on  there was a pool under the car  front and rear      I've no idea how much gas is in as only had it a few weeks and i never thought of testing the rear air con,  i turned the front on and its cold  so was happy !    would a low gas cause the problem do you think and allow the front to work but not the rear ?

No, I thought the pressure switch would have cut it due to low pressure but who knows with the Galaxy!

Try and gain access to the rear bits and bobs and see if there is anything obvious.

done a bit of research online   came across a merc site  some of the cars had similar problem   cold at front and warm at back   a common fault was not enough gas   so will try that 1st i think
