marinabrid Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 Mk2 handbook states battery must be replaced with a silver calcium type no other type to be used, just got the car and the seller had fitted a new 096 standard lead battery, is this a cause for concern or should i get the correct type. xavier Posted July 19, 2014 Report Posted July 19, 2014 Go to halfords website, put in your reg and see what it recommends. I think that battery will be suitable though. Quote
chromedome Posted July 19, 2014 Report Posted July 19, 2014 The Exide New Evolution Range 017e is a calcium battery recommended for a Galaxy. It's about the biggest battery you can fit in the car. I fitted one in my car about 6 months ago and it has not given any problems. I got mine form Battery2u.co.uk for around Quote
marinabrid Posted July 21, 2014 Author Report Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) looked on Halfords, it lists silver calcium and also cheaper lead, looking it up on web there seems to be divided opinion, some say the smart charging system must have a calcium battery where others say lead is fine but it may not last as long. The main thing that worried me was reading that these modern electronics are very sensitive and the wrong battery can cause problems with incorrect voltage. Makes you wonder who to believe. Mr Ford who states clearly silver calcium or the man in the real world. Edited July 21, 2014 by marinabrid Quote
BrianH Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Does the 2.8 have the smart charging system though? I think thats a Ford thing which the 2.8 isn't really. Quote
SilverBeast Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 The diesels aren't Fords either but say the same about the battery. Quote
chromedome Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 If the OP is worried about maybe having the wrong battery perhaps he should change it for his own piece of mind. Quote
bigdave982 Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Handbook also says dealer to change the oil, but we don't lol Quote
marinabrid Posted July 22, 2014 Author Report Posted July 22, 2014 i bought a bosch silver from europarts a 100 part number a big sod it is Quote
BrianH Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 The bosch ones seem good - the one i've just swapped out of mine was on the car in 2007(and wasn't new then!) and still started the car now, but was starting to struggle when left for a couple of days. Quote
