moog999 Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 Hi guys, Traded my mk2 2.3 petrol last week for a mint 2007 mk3 2.0 TDCI last weekend and (all being well) pick it up on sat morning. I was just wondering iif it was possible to somehow convert the existing fixed key into a flip key, I find they sit in your pocket much more comfortably. The car has 2 keys like this http://carkeyfob.co.uk/image/cache/data/FORD/Ford%20replacement%20key%20case%20HU100-640x480.jpg Is it possible to buy one of the flip keys and swap out the immobiliser chip or something? You can get blank keys like this for not much money http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/product_images/o/849/Ford-Focus-3-button-remote-with-flip-key-FO101T-2__07615_zoom.jpg I might have answered my own question actually. Just ordered one of these http://cobracartech.co.uk/ford-replacement-key-fobs-cases/290-ford-focus-fiesta-mondeo-c-max-s-max-galaxy-3-button-conversion-kit-to-flip-kit.html Assume that the innards of the existing key goes into this and then just a matter of getting the blade cut. We'll see anyway, if it's crap then I'll send it back. wji7284 Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 How did you get on with your flip key conversion? It's something I would like to change on my 2009 galaxy also. Was it possible or was it a expensive main dealer job? Quote
moog999 Posted August 24, 2014 Author Report Posted August 24, 2014 Hi, well I got the key and had a chat with someone who could cut it for me. He was concerned that the blade on such a cheap item might fail at some point and wouldn't guarantee it would be OK. In the end I decided not to bother and sent it back. But, it really is a pain in the arse have the key blade exposed. In rethinking whether to give it a go after all. Looked dead easy to swap the innards from my existing key into the one linked to. No coding needed. Quote
