Hi all

This mk 2 i bought has no factory fitted cd changer in the rear storage box,     there is a lead coming from the loom under the box that is fitted with a square plug.,   i though this would fit the ford cd changer.   it doesn't,  i got a used cd changer but the plug on there is the same as the plug on the loom, i went to ford and he couldn't find anything.

i need to know if   anyone has a cd changer fitted in the rear box    if it has a short lead that goes into the plug on the loom   or if the wire to the changer comes directly out of the loom with a single plug on that fits into the changer    i think there must be a short flylead that joins the two

   hope that makes sense

To my knowledge it's just one single lead, I think possibly what's happened is that over the lifetime of the Mk2 Galaxy model the style of connector on the changer unit was altered and you've bought a changer which isn't compatible with the type of connector fitted to your vehicle.

wondered that   but every single changer i have looked at   is the same.   the breaker i got it from says he has 6  and they are all with the same male pins,   thats why i thought there was a flylead,  i have since   gone into the box and found the loom above the wheel arch and unclipped it,   its more than long enough to come into the car and plug into the cd without any extra leads,  so i have a cd with pins fitting and a plug on the loom with pins    also the wires are different colours and position so i dare not attempt to join them..   the chap at the breakers supplied the unit with a wire  that plugged into the cd    but then it was cut in half  so no plug on the other end  which now I'm thinking was never there   it just went into the loom, and again the colours are all different.

I've got a 54 plate Ghia, I've removed the CD changer from mine because it wasn't working and replaced it by fitting one of the 6006 model in dash changer units. If it helps I can photograph the connector lead and old changer unit from mine and p.m the pictures to you, I'll have to do it that way as I can't upload pictures to the site.

Ok, will do it a bit later, if the changer unit I've got has the same style of connector to the one you've bought then the only other thing I can think of is that the Sat-Nav equipped models for some reason had a different changer unit fitted to them which is not interchangeable with the standard changer, it needs somebody else with a model fitted with sat-nav  and a changer to confirm, or at least check the engineering part number on the changer unit, which if it's different will have a different number to the standard unit (my CD changer part number is 95VW-18C849-BA).

i have a feeling that your plug will be the opposite to mine     but if you can check the other end   where it goes to the loom above the wheel arch    it will either   come straight forth gloom to the changer  or have a flylead    chances are  it will not have a flylead and i for some reason have this odd reverse plug  that there is no way of joining it

Does the loom connector look like like it would fit this?

EDIT:

Ok, forget that, that's a female connector and from what you're describing you need a unit with a male connector. To be fair, it looks like there are a few different CD changers/ leads listed depending on whether sat-nav is fitted or not, if you look here you can see item 1 (the changer) and 12 (the lead) have a few options, if you hover over the '?' at the end of each line it gives some additional data- e.g, with or without sat-nav. This isn't gospel but it gives you some idea.

thats the same as the dealer shows me,  but the cable isn't shown in its true form,   two of them are left hand drive so can be forgot      the others say    less multi media    this car has multi media fitted      this is getting very odd again, all i need is a lead with  female fitting on both ends to fit the changer with male pins and the loom plug with male ends.

Of the two right hand drive cables, 1135761 is listed as 'less navigation system', whereas 1135763 is listed as 'less multi media/telematics' but 'with navigation system'. Multimedia must be referring to the centre console mounted DVD player and front headrest screens, does yours have this? I didn't think it was possible to get both sat-nav and DVD player in the Mk2, and possibly that is the problem- perhaps either the DVD player or sat-nav is not original factory fit and one has been added at a later date, and with both fitted, the system cannot support a changer unit as well. I suspect the reason for the choice of cables is because the connector for the CD changer on the sat-nav unit is not the same as used on the standard head unit. Though I can't explain why the connector at the CD changer end is different (unless the CD changer itself is different internally for the sat-nav equipped model), I'm afraid you probably need the different changer unit fitted to the sat-nav equipped models, the one you've bought is just a standard one. Of the changers, 1045748 is listed 'less navigation system' whereas 1100898 is listed 'with navigation', so there are obviously differences.

Also, I'm afraid just getting a lead that fits the changer may not be the answer as the connector at the head unit end is also probably different.

Ok, scrub all that.

Having just looked at an old Ford brochure for the Mk2 Galaxy:

"Multimedia rear seat entertainment system (DVD player)...CD autochanger is not available when this is specified. Model 6006 (in dash changer unit) becomes standard".

Except that, because you've got sat-nav fitted, there's no room for a 6006. That's the price of having both sat-nav and mutimedia installed. If you had one or the other, you could fit a changer, but with both, what you've got is as good as it gets.

in the handbook  that is for the navigation system      it states in there   the unit controls the cd changer that is fitted in the boot !

tell you how to play cps and skip  shuffle  etc    .   if you could take a pic of the plug that comes from your loom  if the colours match up i may be able to connect it somehow,  unless they changed the colours    is nothing ever simple.   i just can't see the possibility that ford wouldn't let you fit a cd changer   everyone has one ! and the fact that the sat nav unit   also has stamped on it    cd control     means it must be possible.

That's what I'm trying to tell you...... Yes, normally the sat-nav would support a CD changer EXCEPT that you've got mutimedia fitted as well which doesn't, that's why normally the 6006 changer was fitted in the dash in vehicles with multimedia fitted, but because the sat-nav takes the place of the standard head unit, this cannot be done.

so  no cd if you have sat nav and multimedia, now to tell the wife who plays U2 as she's driving    or should i say     used to play U2

Radio only.

oh  never though of that     i actually have not turned that on yet, i presume the sound comes from the speakers    so that may work, thanks for all you chaps help   your galaxy knowledge is amazing. I'm sure there will be more mk 2 questions from me soon.

am i missing the point here, have you actually put a cd in the bloody thing to see if it plays.

if like all my dvd players in my house it will know the difference between a dvd and cd and play it accordingly,i can not see that they would only allow you to play dvds.

Keep asking.

I learn't most of the useful stuff from this site originally, though fordmpv is easier to search, only because it's newer with fewer posts.  Mirez set it up when this site was down a lot.  You can still post pictures on there and enlarge the ones in the posts, as unfortunately the maintenance on this one seems to be hit and miss. Still a massive wealth of information though.  I try and read all the posts in the MKI/MKII section so I know what's coming!!

You'll probably want to enable "Miles to Empty" on yours with it being a V6!

have joined that site today so will have a good look on it   but been on here for many years so won't be leaving !  in fact my original post about booster heaters is still going   wonder if its a record.

I wouldn't suggest leaving for a minute.  I have no intention of doing so either!!

Probably read your booster heater post.  Had to replace the brushes on my Auxilliary coolant pump and replace Booster Heater (it's the newer D5Z-F and the contoller PCB failed).
