Hi all,

Always used to cut out the sticky black ones while on the Shuttle...

Things might have progressed since I bought the last kit (which I used over and over again).

Any thoughts for the best available and cost-effective option for a 2003 Galaxy...

Thanks all,

Sticky black plastic works well, it's just knowing where to stick it! My brother in law has a set of plastic headlamp protectors which have the markings on. Basically it's the lower nearside qudrant of the mainbeam light that needs masking. I marked mine with a permanent marker whilst looking at the light from the front and level with it, then copied onto a paper sheet and used that as a template for the black sticky stuff.

I've heard that some members have got a template from their Fraud dealer but mine just wanted to book it in to make the measurements and make a fast buck!

I got a template from Ford customer services, by fax; I believe that it's the one on the TIS disc. It provides 4 different shaped masks, 2 for each lamp, and is a pain in the bot to reproduce (I used adhesive metallic tape). Seems to work fine; no flashing from French drivers.

Someone suggested mounting the masks permanently on a headlamp cover, which sounds sensible if you go to Europe every year.

I was told the deflectors (clear plastic with numerous parallel lines) are best. They bend the light towards the right hand side (ie where you want it when in Europe) rather than just block the light heading towards the left (that dazzles the continentals) as tape does.

Yes - but where do you position them, because the facelifted headlamps have no alignment marks on them at all - and what is best to clean the glue off after use so as not to damage the plastic lenses of the headlamps?

Can anyone email a template giving the shape/location of headlight deflectors for a facelifted 2001 Galaxy ? Cheers.

My Skoda dealer told me that they do these with converters already stuck to them in the right place - Why can VW / SEAT / Ford do the same ?

The masking templates I had from Ford Customer Services (which sound the same as those on the TIS) look nothing like a regular headlamp deflector. There are guide marks on the plastic headlamp cover (there are on mine, anyway) for masks made according to the template.

Ford Customer Services faxed me a template the same day I asked them.

I love it...

You go to a Ford Dealer - at the Parts Desk, say "I'd like a copy of the templates for the headlights of my Galaxy" - you get the reply "Ford don't do them."

The man at the Service Desk, says "I think there's a lever to change them - have you read the manual?".

"But those guys on the Internet say that you've got a template..." - I go and sit in the car for a few minutes thumbing through the manual... finding nothing!!!"

A few minutes later, the Parts Desk guy comes out with a sheaf of paper... with the templates on it!

"It's nowt to do with the Parts Department - it's from the Service Department"

Hummm....

Just goes to show how well informed this Forum is!!

Thanks all,
