Jammed Lock Drivers Door

Hello!

 

I have a problem on my mkii. The problem is that when i use the central locking using the key knob. It does not lock the drivers door. I need to manually lock it using the key. Ok this is irritating but not the worst part.

Sometimes when I have locked it, it is impossible to open the door with the key turning it manually in the lock. It seems that the mechanism inside that is used by the central locking system is jammed. I then have to unlock using the key knob and then i can turn the key to unlock the drivers door. And I habe only one key with wokling key knob used by my wife :( so I am stuck with a manual key. This becomes a real problem when I am about to use the car when my wife has locked it using the knob since I am unable to open the car :(. And a frightning thought has crossed my mind what if my wife some how loose her key or it wont operate by the key knob..... Then I will have to use a brick to get into the car.

 

I have had it at a car repairment but they said it would cost like 2000 SEK to fix approxamitly

First thing I would check is the rubber gaitor from the door to the A pillar. Pull it back and check the state of the wires, broken and compromised wires are common. Do this for all doors and also tailgate. Also known for the connectors in the pillars to have dodgy connections.

Otherwise its down to stripping off the door cards and examine everything from wiring and connectors to linkages. Squirting lubricant into the locks may help too.
