Which Way Round For Spare Wheel Carrier

Hi folks. I've made up a test rig for the spare wheel carrier comprising of a threaded bar / nyloc etc with the existing handle.

 

However its been off the car that long I can't remember which way round it goes?

Whixh side of the wheel is shown when it is hoisted up on the car ? Is it inside of the rim showing facing down and the outside rim facing up ?

 

Just wanna make sure the measurements are spot on before getting my mate to weld up the wheel carrier box...

As Greg says, it's as the first picture, this way it's more secure when stowed, also, if you did try to install it the other way round the nylon retainer MAY bottom out in the winder unit before the wheel is located.
