robin05 Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 hi , hope someone will know what to do ?just had a recon gearbox fitted and when i got it back the steering has changed?its all heavy and doesnt want to return to the centre of road when driving?took it back to garage and they adjusted the sub frame slightly but it still not right ?any suggestions please ?robin Quote
insanitybeard Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 If it wasn't like it before they've obviously disturbed and changed something, either the suspension geometry has been altered because they've not put something back correctly, they've damaged something or they've done something like crimp a rubber power steering hose which means the power steering isn't working as it should. Is the steering wheel centred when driving on straight roads? Quote
robin05 Posted May 29, 2014 Author Report Posted May 29, 2014 the steering is centred and the tracking has been done but the steering is very heavy and wont correct itself when cornering ?i read today somewhere that when they took the steering rack apart from the subframe when they put the new gearbox in that you have different legnth screws when it goes back in and that sometimes they put them in the wrong side ? meaning its being pulled the wrong angle ?have you ever come across this before ? insanitybeard Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) I don't understand what you mean about the bolts, I would expect the subframe or rack bolts to be the same both sides. but I maintain that something has either been damaged or incorrectly reassembled, e.g, power steering pipes kinked or reversed, if you say the subframe and wheel alignment is correct. Also, I see you have a mk3 model, so this topic is in the wrong section. Edited May 30, 2014 by insanitybeard Quote
xavier Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 Is it very heavy (can you turn the wheels when stationary?) i.e. like there's no power steering? Quote
