alpickyuk Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 I wonder if anyone can help me id the above pipes number. Someone may still have the label on theirs. My dealer isn't sure from the drawings and it has to be specially ordered on a non returnable basis. Its a quite a common failure it seems as it takes a 90 deg bend under the front drivers side wing from the receiver /drier before snaking across the bulkhead to connect to the valve alongside the larger diameter hose. before entering the cab and evaporator. Its a 10mm pipe I think. Thanks Quote
alpickyuk Posted May 20, 2014 Author Report Posted May 20, 2014 I should have added my vehicle is a MK1 1999 Galaxy 1.9tdi Thanks Quote
insanitybeard Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) I'm not very well up on the Mk1 Galaxy but from what you describe I would say it's got a chance of being item number 8 on this parts diagram, this is leaving the drier unit and turning through 90 degrees, don't trust the part numbers on the diagram though as, as you can see there are several different part numbers for the same item which are applicable to different model specs- petrol, diesel etc. It may give you a starting point anyway. alpickyuk Posted May 21, 2014 Author Report Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks ,have the same diagram but as I'm sure you'll agree its not very clear.Just dont want to be lumbered with a pipe I don't need.It looks like the correct location though.|Cheers Quote
sparky Paul Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 I know the pipe you mean, the one which disintegrates where it crosses the chassis leg in front of the o/s front wheel arch. I've had (and fitted) two of these while I've had the car. Definitely number 8 on the ecat image. Not sure what the current situation is with these pipes, but most of them were on permanent back order some time ago - i.e. obsolete, and no longer manufactured. You may find the replacement pipes unobtainable, and if you do find them, they are not that cheap. If you have any difficulty obtaining a replacement from the dealer, you might try an aircon/refrigeration specialist to repair your original pipe, or repair yourself with Durafix rod or similar.
