Russats Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 I have just bought a 53 plate Galaxy TDi Zetec It drives lovely, all gears go in and out very well. All that is except 6th. It just will not go in, if you lift the clutch a little it'll crunch it's way in bit obviously I can't keep doing that as that will cause damage. Would it be a selector issue?Worn or not setup right? I'm praying it's noting more serious such as the box or clutch? It's done 160,000 miles and has had the clutch replaced in the last year. Quote
insanitybeard Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Is it equally difficult to get into 6th with the engine not running? If yes, then it's likely a selector issue- either cables, selector mechanism unit on top of the gearbox or internal gearbox issue. Quote

When driving or idling it won't go in Engine off it goes in fine Quote
insanitybeard Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Interesting, that makes it a little harder to diagnose then. Normally, if it selects fine with the engine off then I'd be thinking clutch issues, but if that were the case I'd expect you to have difficulties with selecting other gears with the engine running as well, not just 6th. If you put it into 6th with the engine off and start the engine with the clutch in, does it go back into neutral from 6th ok? Quote
Russats Posted May 20, 2014 Author Report Posted May 20, 2014 I noticed today that if you attempt to put it in 6th then relax the pressure it slots in fine, I can live with that for now Quote
