Removing And Cleaning A Egr Valve On A Mk3 Galaxy

hi there, i am new in here..

did anyone attempted to remove and clean the egr valve? valve is located inside the manifold. i have tried get to it but got stuck on this dumbbell looking thing that i couldnt get it out and was affraid of braking it.

any information will be much appreciated
