Hi Guys,

Looking for some words of wisdom. I searched the site and can't find anything that appears to match my problem. My Mk1 1,9 Diesel has more than 300,000 miles on the clock. My wife came home complaining that the car had stalled and when restrated was reluctant to pull away. Once going it didn't seem bad. I checked out limp home mode general air and electrical connections nothing found.

I jumped in and drove it off the drive. It seemed like I was pulling away in 3rd or fourth. I got it out onto a bigger road and changed up to 5th. The revs jumped, it was liked I'd just selected 2nd from 4th not 5th from 4th. When I got it back home It wouldn't select reverse. Gear stick in the right position  but a forward gear selected.

Once back on the drive I invetigated the the gear change more closesly. I am able to make the stick move left and right, full travel, when any gear is selected. It's like the gates disappeared. I've checked the cable adjustment, the blue, selector cable seems to have unlimited slack! Could it be broken? Also, I can pul the lener up and down. Could the lever mechanism be worn out?

Suggestions or points to posts that may have an answer would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pete H
