Nomolos Posted May 21, 2008 Report Posted May 21, 2008 Interesting post .. Just had a loss of drive while pulling away at a junction with a nasty expensive noise coming from down below, with terminal death knells from ford about new gear boxes this I think will be my first port of call over the weekend. Would anyone have a picture of the offending part just for my own piece of mind before I dive in? I have a tech disk at home but cant put my hands on it at the moment! Quote

Nomolos Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 Well after gale force winds over the last weekend I have finally taken spanners to metal, with much and I do mean MUCH banging swearing and the occasional bit of pain the offending item has been removed from the car.It Quote
Nomolos Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Slight Update Been ringing round for prices VW quote Quote
Sher Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 From the prices quoted it seems that Ford and Volks are responding to the fact that the after market sector are happy to produce the outer section of the driveshaft ( on exchange) at a much lower price Ford/Volks at first offered last year. The Inner Stub axle is still as expensive, I presume since it is not able to be re-manufactured/ refurbished and needs a lot more original metal to produce. As far as I know the Stub is Still a Manufacturer's part only but the Outer is freely available elsewhere at 1/3 less. This is one of the Common Problems that makes The Galaxy II ( and I presume the Alhambra, Sharan) the most unreliable car I have ever owned. Why did Ford go to the in house Galaxy III otherwise? Chris Young Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 heres another one. just happened to me :angry2: 02 galaxy 75000 miles. driveshaft sheared off just where it goes into gearbox. garage said Quote
arryp0tter Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 have a 96 2ltr petrol and i snapped a drives shaft pulling away from a junction ( steadily i might add) shaft snapped off just outside the inner cv joint speaking to others in trade its a common problem must be sub standard materials cos the dimensions of the metal makes them tough or should be. cost 240 quid trade for a replacement and 20 mins work to change cost me 90 quid to get suspend towed home. boffa Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Hi Guys, I'm a newbie and this is my first post. Last Monday at 4pm on pulling on to a busy A road I too had the dreaded clunk followed by an expensive sounding grinding noise and no movement. Had to push the car (no mean feat) back off the junction onto the minor road which is something my Wife could not of done. The car is a 51 plate TDI 115 Galaxy with 64000 miles covered so is consistant with other posts on this forum. RAC turned up and asked where I wanted to take the car to which I replied Essex Ford at Dunton. He phoned them to which they replied "Bring the car in , We will be able to work on it next Monday" a week away. Needless to say that was not an option but the RAC man recommended a local family garage and towed me there. The car was ready next day with a repair bill of Quote
Nomolos Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Thats a good price i would have been happy to pay that...well perhaps not happy but would have paid that amount :) Quote
boffa Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Yeah Nomolus..I thought it could of been a lot worse aswell. The Fella put the car on the computer and revealed the reason why the car is intermitently revving itself on start up (faulty temp sensor) and didn't even charge me. The quality of service is so much better at the small family run workshops than at the huge faceless main dealers wouldn't you agree? Quote
harpster Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Hi All, Hope all is good, I just need a some advise please, Yesterday i noticed my left & Right Inner boots have split, What would cause both to split. (general wear)Would this relate to notchy gear change and bad pick up in 1st and 2nd Gear (very sloppy) Or is that me as i had a auto 2.0l Mondeo before. Also when changing from 1st to 2nd i also get a jerk and sometimes a crunch. Is it a driveshaft failure or may it be gearbox. It is a Alhambra 2003 model 1.9 TDI S (AUY Engine)Thanks in advance Quote
RIPOFF Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Hi MateJust to let you know i had the same problem 1.9tdi 130bhp 2003 replaced nearside, got the offside reconditioned 12months and 1 week later had to replace offside, i cannot wait to get rid, it costs me about Quote
Col Ective Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 Have an 03 Galaxy 1.9 TDI and have experienced 3 drive Transmission failures and have needed to replace the Gearbox. Also know a number of people that have experienced similar on VW Sharans. Can anyone recommend a good technical description of how to change the drive shaft? Quote

B@rnstormer Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 I'm having the same problem right now and have found out a few things: 1) If you've got the 115 HP or the 130 HP engine you can get aftermarket driveshafts pretty much everywhere for not a lot of money,2) Nobody makes aftermarket inner shafts or intermediate shafts for the 90 PS (90 HP) engine with the 6 speed manual gearbox, and3) The original parts from ford cost around £400 or more. Am I the only person on here who's had the driveshaft issue with the 90 HP engine? Actually, has anybody else even GOT the 90 HP engine? I've been told by a few people now that they didn't put the 90 HP engine in the MKII Galaxy - but Ford say they did. Quote
