Denis Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Having done a variety of tests I think I have a better idea of where the noise comes from. It seems to be turbulence in the air that passes just above the mirror mounting. If you drive with the window open and feel the air passing above the mount, it is very turbulent. If the window is open you don't really notice it but when the window is closed the turbulent air hits the glass and hence the noise. I have done a few experiments and haven't managed to cure the noise, though I have been able to significantly change it by taping small objects to the door, just above the mirror mount, in order to disrupt the airflow. Quite a few of us seem to have this problem, if anyone comes up with some more ideas I think it would be really good. Maybe we need those horrible clip on perspex wind deflectors that used to be so popular. Uugh! Quote
seatkid Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Have you taped up the gap between the mirror mount and mirror (i.e) where it swivels)? - my Alhambras all whistled from there - stuck a foam bit in there to stop it.... Quote
Denis Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Posted July 14, 2004 Thanks seatkid, I have tried that also. Though it's not a whistle, more a buffeting sound. Strangely, someone I work with has a 53 Galaxy and he has always maintained that his car doesn't have this problem. Today I borrowed his car and it's just as bad as mine! So I guess part of the problem might be how good your hearing is! Quote
Richmond Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 So I guess part of the problem might be how good your hearing is! Or how much wind noise bothers you, or what you're used to. I'm grateful just to be able to hear the radio and conduct a conversation at 90 mph; this is the first car I've owned in which I can! Quote
