skippythompson Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 :5: 2004 Galaxy Mk2 1.9 TDDI (130ps) Ghia ASZ1 - 139k Hi everyone, Does anyone know the cause of my clutch pedal suddenly staying down in an almost engaged position? (less than 2 inches from a fully engaged position) 1 - It first occurred after doing a 70 mile stretch of motorway . 2 - I then tried to dip the clutch pedal but it was resting in a position unusually low down to the floor. 3 - I figured out that I could use my foot to manually lift the pedal back up to the normal position but the problem keeps happening quite frequently. ??? :5: Initially, I thought it was probably due to a seized clutch cable but i see that the clutch pedal directly operates a push-rod mechanism onto what I think is the master cylinder, so no 'old fashioned' clutch cables to be seen anywhere !! Any input would be GREATLY appreciated - thanks!! Peace and love, peace and love. Quote
chromedome Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 The clutch on the Galaxy is hydraulic and the slave cylinder is in the gearbox housing. I'm not sure if there is a return spring on the clutch pedal itself which may have broken. Quote
skippythompson Posted March 15, 2014 Author Report Posted March 15, 2014 Thanks for your input 'Chromedome', I should have mentioned that I had already checked for a broken return spring but the spring looks perfectly intact to me. Cheers! Quote
viperclive Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Had the same happen to me a few months ago, Pedel went straight to deck, slave cylinder shot, situated in gearbox, best to buy complete kit inc slave cylinder. Quote
skippythompson Posted March 17, 2014 Author Report Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks Viperclive... Is this something which is repairable for a fairly competent (modest) DIY'er or is it a full garage / workshop job? Any ideas on the likely cost, things to consider along the way, etc Would it make sense to have some other components replaced at the same time as is sound like the gearbox is going to need to be removed in oder to access the Slave cylinder? Thanks again for all the comment - much appreciated! Quote
