Sparky10 Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Hello there, I'm new to the whole Forum thing. I have a 2003 Galaxy Ghia 1.9tdi 130bhp. She has just hit 95,000 miles on the clock. I'm pretty sure from looking through the service history she hasn't had a cambelt change. Do you think it needs doing? If so, has anyone got any idea of what sort of price it would cost? Also people have been advising me that it would be a good idea to get the waterpump replaced as well, is this true? Any help/information would be great. Thanks Quote
insanitybeard Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) The specified cambelt change interval for the TDI changed from 40,000 miles to 60,000 miles in about 2003 so depending on build date yours could be either. If it hasn't been done then yes, it definitely needs changing! If it fails in service you could be looking at major engine damage. The water pump is driven by the cambelt, I would recommend renewing it whilst you're in there, if you don't change it and it subsequently fails then you'll have to renew the belt again (and effectively do the whole job again). Cost wise, well, I changed mine myself backalong, a top quality kit with tensioner and idler was about Edited March 11, 2014 by insanitybeard Quote
