I've read somewhere on the forum about a company in Poland that supplies very good drive shafts for the Galaxy. I've searched but can't find the information again.

Can someone provide a link for me?

My symptoms are wobbling when accelerating between 40-50mph but mainly when warm. I can go for a week sometimes without any wobble. I can't find anyone who is prepared to re-grease the CV joints which I think may be the problem. The only option I'm given is to replace the drive shafts.

Anyone near Peterborough fancy a job....................

Thanks.

Details here are mainly about transfer shaft but the link to manufacturer is faulty company is motomax.

They just seem to be selling the transfer shaft at the moment or the inner cv joints separately from the driveshaft.  I suggest you email them and see if they will do the whole driveshaft.

I had a vibration at about 20 which went when I replaced my driveshaft with one from J&R on ebay.  Vibration is coming back now after approx 20k miles.  Not sure I would recommend them because of this.  I have another new one sat in my garage as I thought the CV on the other side was split, due to the amount of grease in the hub, but it must have been left over from a previous repair.  For the price I thought it was worth trying them as I believe it's simpler to replace the driveshaft than regrease or replace the CV joint(s).  A lot quicker and cleaner too.  When you replace it I suggest you do the lower balljoint at the same time.

I've also put a J&R one on mine and it seems fine so far, though I don't do a lot of miles. There was a pinhole in the old cv rubber (think I might have done it when changing ABS sensors) so have kept the old shaft to replace the cv rubber in the summer at my leisure. Would agree it's simpler to replace the whole shaft than just the joint, my only issue with the JR replacement is I didn't have a suitable socket for their replacement hub bolt.

I fitted a set of the J&R ones about 20K miles ago, and one of them gave up on me today. Can't really complain at the price though, and I have a replacement sitting in the garage ready to be fitted.

New drive shafts fitted tonight. Took my mechanic an hour for both sides.

Old nearside shaft:

Inner CV joint was very slack and rumbled when moved about. The boot that was replaced last year for the MOT was not fitted too well and was leaking grease.

Old off side shaft:

Inner CV joint was seized solid.

Outer CV boots on both shafts were perished.

The end result is that my wobble has gone and the car actually does now run smoother. Let's hope the new shafts hold up for a while.

Just order a pair from J&R as I am sick of the rattle in my sharan.

Yesterday there came a loud grinding noise when above 25 mph getting louder as I speed up.

Going to get 2 wheel bearings as well get them replaced at same time. Nearly 100k miles on car so probably these parts r failing or have failed.

Just covered 100 miles and I'm taking off the J&R drive shafts. I have now got a vibration at around 20mph in second gear which I have seen in other posts on this forum.

Rather than damage my transmission, I have just ordered two GKN Lobro drive shafts which I am told are very good.

Now got to try and get my money back for the J&R ones. Not holding my breath!!

Bearings and drive shafts replaced still a f**king rattle.

Drop links replaced, ball joints replaced now drive shafts and bearings. Don't know wot to do next??

Going to remove the bottom cover to see any ideas??

Anti-roll bar bushes or lower arm bushes? Engine roll restrictor?

It's like a metal on metal rattle like something is loose not a thud.

Insanitybeard I have changed or had checked all of them parts mentioned.

Have you actually renewed the anti roll bar bushes though? If they're a little worn they may not be bad enough to detect movement when inspecting but bad enough to allow the anti roll bar to move/ rattle over bumps etc. Or what about the suspension top mounts/ bearings? Are the brake discs/pads in good condition, any major ridge or rust/grooving on the discs? Was the intermediate bearing renewed on the offside drive shaft when you changed the driveshafts, because if that fails that can cause issues like you describe?

Yes new anti roll bars was installed and top mounts of suspension was also check with one replaced.

It's a real mystery.

As my (edited) above post, was it just the outer driveshafts with the CV joints on that you renewed or did you change the intermediate shaft on the offside? The intermediate shaft has a bearing which can fail.

Where the inner CV joint bolts to intermediate driveshaft on the offside, the intermediate shaft runs along the back of the engine block to the gearbox. The intermediate bearing bolts to the back of the engine block just inside of the offside inner CV joint.

Thanks insanitybeard.

Just one more thing would u have any idea as to why my airbag light is on the dash?

The drivers footwell and under the drivers seat was full of water but I have it most dried out now think it was door seal but the airbag light still on??

No more rattle or knocking all sorted.

Was washing car yesterday and notice the outer clasp on the drivers brake calliper was loose moving inside the alloy. Took wheel off and put it back in place. No more noises.

I wud say the drive shafts and bearings cured a lot of issues too.

Still have airbag light on though. Can a code reader reset this?? Was thinking of buying one?? Any recommendations for one??
