The cruise control on my 02 plate 2.3 Ghia has stopped working. It's been working with no problems until now.

(The car doesn't have the indicator light in the instrument panel - or if it does then it's never worked).

I fiddled with the switch & checked the hoses behind the nearside indicator.

There hasn't been a gradual decline in it's performance as mentioned in other threads - it's totally stopped working. Very disappointing really.

Any other ideas ?

Cheers.

Check the operation of the switches on the brake and clutch pedal as well as the hoses under the dash, check the fuses and if possible string up a temp supply to the pump to check its working? that ways if it is you can check the hoses for leaks as you can now hear the hissing as the engines not running

Apparently the warning light in the dash is disabled in the management console and can be enabled by programming with the correct code. However no-one (outside of the main dealers) seems to know what block needs coding and the correct bit setting. If anyone knows......

The cruise control is apparently also disabled by default on some of the VW vehicles and the dealers need to initialise it at the pre delivery inspection.

This is proving to be a pain. I've cheked the stalk switch and the pedal switches. I can switch the CC on and then pressing the clutch or brake produces the usual click sound which usually means the CC has disengaged.

When CC is engaged I can hear a hiss just like air coming out of a hose. Therefore I'm guessing its a hole in a hose somewhere.

Where does the hose go ?

2 pictures follow.

First is the general location just to check I;m looking the right place..

Second is the open flap in the near side arch where I'm told the CC hides. Everything seems in order but where does the hose go next ?

Cheers.

The throttle pedal is operated by a vacuum operated servo so the hose's will run up under the dash to it, also they go the switches on the pedals as these also work on the vacuum lines as well as being electrical switches, when the brake or clutch pedals are pushed the vacuum is lost and the throttle pedal is released and drops back the idle postion at the same the electrical part of the switch shuts down a valve in the pump stopping the vacuum being formed

so take a good look around up under the dash and check the hoses to the servo and pedal switches for leaks

Just a comment, and of no real use to this thread at all.

In the eighties I had a Nissan 300ZX turbo its cruise control was operated by a vac pump and a huge diaphragm, like a brake servo to operate the throttle cable.

My next car (1990) was a Vauxhall Carlton 3000 GSI and had a neat little electric servo motor to operate the cruise control.

I am astounded that vac pumps and other such heavy and fault prone devices are still in use.

Ok. Will go and investigate. My messing about last night caused an engine problem which the AA had to help me with !. See other thread, "My Engine Won't start, and how it was fixed"
