Adie271 Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 hi can any one help I have a 2001 v6 galaxy which has started to shift violently between 2nd and third and forth and fifth this caused ESP and engine management light to come on with code p0748 Pressure Control Solenoid Electrical I think it could be either dirty oil, low oil or a solenoid failure . Does anyone have any tips or advice or tips on how to confirm and fix the problem please ...??? Thanks in advance Quote
chromedome Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 I have read lots of posts relating to jerky gear changes and normally it is the ATF (Auto Transmission Fluid) as it deteriorates over time. The ATF has to be at a particular temperature when checking the amount of ATF in the gearbox so this is normally left to a garage you know and trust. Do this as the first step, clear the codes and keep your fingers crossed. Quote
Adie271 Posted January 25, 2014 Author Report Posted January 25, 2014 Thanks for the advice I will give it a try hope it's not to expensive Quote
duke777 Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 Hi thereWould a jerky gear box cause issues where occasionally the car won't start?I have the same issue with voilent changing of gears. Recently I have had issue where if I go for a long-ish drive and then turn the car off and try and start it again, nothing happens. Sometimes if I turn the key and hold the key in the starting position it might start. If it I leave it over night it will start fine. Should I firstly get the ATF topped up and then see if the starting issues goes away? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2002 Ford Galaxy 2.9liter Automatic Thank you.. Quote

duke777 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Hi thereSorry, was the question about Relay 30 for me? :-)Mine is a petrol engine. Quote
duke777 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Aaaah...I've search the forum here and seen a lot of other Galaxy owner with the same problem, which is solved by replacing or resoldering relay 30?I've actually take my car into the garage today to see if they could tell me what the problem is.Will be interesting to see what they say but hoping it's just a case of the fault relay. Thanks very much BrianH Quote

Thanks very much BrianH I'm not sure if the relay 30 problem applies to the 2.8 engine as thats the vw type. it definitely applies to the 2.0 and 2.3. TBH its worth pulling the fusebox apart and giving it a try if your handy with a soldering iron or know someone who is. Or have one you can swap it for. You may find the jerky problem is down to either not enough fluid, or the fluid being in poor condition. Garage should be able to advise and there is some more info on here about the process of changing the fluid or checking it. The other thing to bear in mind with it being an automatic is there will be a starter inhibitor switch on the gearbox - this should prevent it starting if its not in park or neutral but may be acting up particually if its being shaken about. duke777 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Well the garage came back. They had the car all day and could not get the car to not start. Then just after I called to get a progress update they said theyve just got it not to start and checking out why. They then said I need to replace the starter motor...200 quid plus 60 quid labour. I've phoned around this morning about getting relay 30 changed but nobody knew what I was talking about. I have tried different things to try and mimic the issue and I get the same behaviour when I put the car in park or neutral and then try and start. Sounds like it wants to turn over but won't. To me it sounds like it could be this starter inhibitor switch that's faulty or lose? Is there an easy way to check this?? Btw I have to agree with other members...just brilliant advice and suggestions given on this site. Edited January 29, 2014 by duke777 Quote
BrianH Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 the genuine relay has been said to be around Quote
