Alkers Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Hello everyone, hoping someone might be able to help me out here! Anyway I have an 02 Ford Galaxy diesel, and water is coming into the front passenger footwell. The rear windscreen wiper spray is working - so am assuming that the water isn't coming from there. The other day I googled it and found out that it can be caused by an incorrectly fitted air filter. Anyway today I refitted the air filter and it all seemed to be fitted correctly - although the section where my Haynes manual said a PCV filter should be was empty. Is the PCV filter important?? Also confused that this could cause leakage on the passenger side as its located on the drivers side! I am not really a mechanically minded person, but really don't want to keep spending money at the garage only to find out the problem is still there (they said the rear wiper washer wasn't fitted properly and they fixed it - which was meant to have solved the leak, but obviously hasn't  ) Finally I noticed that the hard battery cover is missing. Not sure if its ever been there though! Any further suggestions of where water ingress could be coming from. I know very little about cars, so please be gentle with me - nice plain english and simple instructions!! This time of year it is proving to be a real problem, and I don't know how much longer I can put up with de-icing the inside of the car! This didn't happen last year, and I do think the problem occurred since my last service. HOpe you can help! :) Quote
gregers Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 the scuttles could be blocked, either side of the wings in the engine compartment?do you have a sunroof?as the drain offs may be blocked?pollen fillter may be at fault? have you actually taken the carpet up in the passenger side and checked the pipe incase it is leaking? billywizzo Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 My MK1 had a dis-bonded windscreen which was causing the passenger side foot well to flood,Only found out what it was when i pushed on the windscreen for support and it moved, new windscreen and problem solved. Not saying that is your problem but worth checking out. Alkers Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 Thanks for your responses! I did lift the carpet the other day, but didn't notice any pipes... The water seems to be coming from behind the glove box, I have seen it dip, and we leave a bowl there to collect as much as possible. I'll take another look tomorrow. Will also check windscreen joins Had a look in the Haynes bible about Pollen filters. Bit scary - lots to remove - looks like I will need to rebuild the front of the car to sort that one out! Also think I read somewhere on the forum that someone removed their wiper blades and never got them back on again properly  that sounds like something that'll happen to me!! Did I read wrong the other day that incorrectly fitted air filters can cause leaks? Was it pollen filters? Also should I replace that PCV filter thingy while I am feeling proficient B) If so can someone give me the part number or detail so that I can find it online. I have tried googling it, and there is lots of talk about PCV valves, but not alot about filters... Quote
bigdave982 Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) Think pcv filter might be passenger compartmrnt ventilation in haynes speak ie pollen filterOdd you say its on the drivers side tho pollrn filter is always on passenger side If you are sure scttles/drains arw clear then my money is on windscreen,my old mk1 had this and does the water come in! Never did find out where as it got written off before i could replace it but seems a common fault Edited January 20, 2014 by bigdave982 Quote
