mikeyp Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 After my good lady, realising at 10pm on wednesday night that she'd left the sunroof open ! (Yes the night of the torrential rain! ) the radio controls on the steering column have packed up. Could the fact that it got wet put it beyond repair and if so, does anyome know if you can replace these parts ? Any info would be greatly received. Mike PS We are now talking....JUST.. :o Quote
Guest nimrod Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 PS We are now talking....JUST.. Could you give us the name of the clairvoyant your using! :o The stalk controls are replaceable, it could be a case of removing them and drying them out fully and giving them a quick squirt of WD40 or such like to see if they still work? also check the connectors for water ingress! mikeyp Posted July 9, 2004 Author Report Posted July 9, 2004 Cheers Nimrod, Is it pretty straightforward, removing the stalk ? As for the clairvoyant..it was more like a referee we could have done with ! :o Thanks Quote
mikeyp Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 Sorry Nimrod, been arguing all week. :) year is 1998, Ghia X Quote
mikeyp Posted July 15, 2004 Author Report Posted July 15, 2004 Weird thing is.. it works when the lights are switched on ! :) Same as the controls on the head unit, ie when lights are on volume buttons work, lights off no response.. So no music during daylight hours :) ??? Mike Quote
Guest nimrod Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 It sounds like water is still in the switch or the plugs and shorting out things! it may be worth your while stripping it down and checking out the plugs and switches to make sure they are all dry! to remove the control stalk you need to remove the steering column upper shroud, there are two screws holding it in place, extend and lower the steering wheel to improve you access to the screws and remove them, the shroud should now lift off! it may need a bit of gentle help? you may also need to remove the bottom half as well to unclip the stalk? this is held in place by three screws with the covers removed you should now be able to see the plugs for the control stalk? unplug it and unclip the stalk from the main control stalks, check the plug for signs of water ingress? and stick the stalk on the radiator or give it some gentle heat with a hair drier or such like to dry it out thoroughly, dose the plugs with some WD40 etc to help disperse any moisture, stick it all back together and see how it goes? good luck :) how's the relate counselling going now? :) Quote
