breen77 Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Hi I have a 2005 VW Sharan and the drivers footwell is completely soaked. I have checked under the wipers and even took wipers off and tray out its a bit wet but no puddles. Can find where the drains are anyone know?? The footwell is soaked at bottom but under the pedals is dry. A couple of months ago I got the drivers door wiring loom replaced and the runner seal on the door was removed could this have broke a seal? It is very dry at the door though. Could water run under the plastic covering at door sill?? I have also the airbag light on the dash now which I think may be coming from the wet footwell as the sponge material under the drivers seat is soaking as well. Another issue I have is all my interior lights have stopped working. I was replacing a bulb in the middle area if the car when I heard a noise like a fuse blowing in the front but all fuses look ok and I have replaced the fuse for the interior lights anyway but still no joy. Is there a relay that could have blown?? Any ideas on any of my problem would be much appreciated. It's true when they say it never rains but pours!! Thank you Quote
breen77 Posted January 3, 2014 Author Report Posted January 3, 2014 Update. All interior lights now working another thread on here said check fuse 53 & 55. As they were hard to get to I never checked fuse 53 and when I did happy days it was blown. Replaced and lights on. Took off sill at driver door and notice it wet on the inside of the door seal so I think the water could be running down the sill some where may need to replace the seal?? Quote
breen77 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Report Posted January 6, 2014 Can't find scuttles??? How do I get to them? Quote
gregers Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 open bonnet either side of engine bay, under wipers.just wondered if these were blocked with crud? Quote
breen77 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 I have done that and even removed the wipers and tray but no water sitting at all!! Quote
breen77 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Report Posted January 19, 2014 Footwell is a complete puddle at min!! I put hose in the area where scuttles are and water running out under wheel arches both sides. It appears water coming in round bottom of door as carpet behind pedals is dry as a bone. Could the rubber door seal be an issue here? Quote
breen77 Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 Anyone any ideas please!! Quote
insanitybeard Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 Is it possible the drain holes in the door are blocked allowing water to leak into the car when it builds up inside the door cavity?! Quote
breen77 Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 Where would I find the drain holes insanity beard? Will the inside door card need removing to get to them? I also closed the door and run water via a hose all round the door yesterday and when I opens the door on the outer part of the door seal on the sill water was running down. Would this cause water to leak into car? Thanks for your response. Quote
insanitybeard Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 The door (at least on mine) has 2 drain holes, one at the front and the other at the rear of the door, right at the bottom on the inside, just underneath the lowest horizontal/ flat weatherseal strip at the base of the door (not the main weatherseal around the door opening). Shabazmo Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 You will eventually have to lift the carpet and cut out the thick felt uner the carpet by using astanley knife and remove it. By doing so, you will be able to see where the water enters the footwell. From there you will be closer to finding the cure. You can then dry out the felt before replacing it. 16 years of Galaxy ownership has taught me a few tricks in that there is no quick way to find a leak. Quote
billywizzo Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 My MK1 had water leaking into the passenger foot well, after lots of looking i found it to be the windscreen had dis-bonded and water was getting in that way.It was only that i put my hand on the windscreen for support and noticed it moved at the top corner, new windscreen and problem solved, for me anyway, but worth a look. Quote
breen77 Posted January 20, 2014 Author Report Posted January 20, 2014 Thanks everyone for replies. Will look for the drain holes during the day. If I have to remove carpet and sponge underneath is this easy? Does it have to be glued down again? How is it done?? Will also check the windscreen. Out of interest when replacing the plastic tray b4 putting wipers back on does the edges sit under the windscreen rubber or on top of it?? Quote
breen77 Posted January 27, 2014 Author Report Posted January 27, 2014 As I said previous the door rubber seal was removed when I had the wiring loom replaced by the car electrics person. Can this cause the leak?? Quote
breen77 Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Just contact the VW Stealer bout a new door seal. Quote
smartycar Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 I've just developed this same footwell flooding problem as well, cleaned out the scuttles, dried the carpet/sponge, and back came the water, I too think that my 14 yo door seals are leaking. On my other car I cured the water seepage with silicone grease around the seals which has worked for several years now. I'll do the same to this car and see if it goes away as I cannot fathom out where else the water can get in Quote
breen77 Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 How dd you put the silicone around the seals? Did you first apply it to the car body then press the rubber seal on to it? How did you dry out the footwell? Did you cut the carpet out or just pull it back lift the sponge and dry it that way. Thanks for your reply by the way. Quote
smartycar Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Just smeared the grease around the outer edge of the seal where it meets the door, it may well require the inner seal doing as well as I can't see any visible water stains any where which is making this guess work rather than a good old Sherlockk deduction. I dried the carpets using my Bissell Lift off carpet cleaner as it sucks water up which is a bonus. Quote
BrianH Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 It may be worth taking the door card off and having a look if its coming through the liner for some reason. If so its getting into the door somewhere... Quote
smartycar Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Having removed the door seal on saturday, the lower edge was wet, so this must be the source of my leak. removed the sill trim, lifted the carpet and dried out the underlay, greased the seal on both the car side and door side with silicone grease. Floor is still dry ......remarkably it hasn't rained since!!!!! Hopefully this leak is now cured Quote
breen77 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Report Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks for all replies. I took door card off Saturday too same as smartycar and inside the door was damp but no water lying the only thing I did notice was as I got the wiring loom replaced the car electrics person who did it did not put the loom back into its clips so I did this and I found a black plastic thingy lying at bottom of door so I just took it out. I sealed all round the door seal with silicone and tried to dry out the carpet as best I could so will look later to see if any further water has got in. Another issue the passengers electric window has now stopped working. When i press either button on either door it just makes a buzzing noise. I have checked the wires in the door and no breaks any ideas?? Quote
suzuki91 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 i too have got this problem, hose on the scuttle drains runs out fine, hose on the door and roof does not enter the car. i have removed carpet and insulation and have been checking the floor for any water trails.the only place i can see water is a weeping puddle in the bottom spot weld of the raised beam from under the pedals to the middle of the floor pan. if this is the cause then maybe its water coming up from the road? now the car is dry my windscreen no longer is dripping wet every time i get into the car.i think that once it has stopped weeping i will try to seal it with car body filler.
