chrislloydie Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 Been getting a fairly loud whooshing / air escaping noise under acceleration. Can really hear it with either of the front windows open. Power seems ok, possibly slightly down though. Also noticed a fair amount of oily residue at the top rear of the engine, behind the egr area. Im guessing the 2 are probably linked. Any tips as to what might be the problem? Im off work Friday so plan to investigate then, but its hard to as the whooshing noise only happens when moving, not revving when stationary. Quote
insanitybeard Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 Sounds like a leaking/split/disconnected intercooler pipe, if it's at the rear of the engine it could be where the large rubber intercooler hose connects into the EGR valve, alternatively it could be the intercooler pipe coming out of the turbo lower down on the drivers side. chrislloydie Posted December 13, 2013 Author Report Posted December 13, 2013 Turned out to be a hole in the middle section of the exhaust. It had rusted through where the exhaust hanger is welded on just in front of the centre silencer box. The oil appears to have come from around the filler cap area. I changed the oil a few weeks ago and did spill a fair amount into the rubber lip bit around the filler. Quote
