hi, i had a x reg 1.9tdi galaxy which got wrote off by accident damage to bodywork, i purchased another 52 reg non runner which i found the turbo had failed, ive swapped the engine/gearbox from my x reg. the car will start for a brief second and then just cuts out, i have swapped various sensors etc, with no luck, i have put the correct ecu for engine onto it also the central locking module from the fuse box, the intercooler had a lot of oil in it but appears pretty clear. i cant work out if its a pats problem or a engine related fault.

Any advice appreciated, thanks

Now I don't confess to be anyway an expert bit I'm going off experience but are the fuel pipes on the right way round? A couple of years ago my mechanic had put them on wrong way only because the way the were entwined and looked right took a couple of hours then realised the mistake he made. Might have nothing to do with it but just a suggestion

Sounds like a Pats fault, do you have the keys of the donor car? Did you change the ignition barrel so the correct key is being used. The pats chip is in the key and is programmed to the ecu. You can pull/swap the chips in the key if they are both remote fob types cos you can open them easily (but take care not to lose the chip as it often drops out). You can't do that with a standard key, cos they are sealed, so you may still have to change the barrel. Edited by seatkid

hi, thanks for the suggestions the fuel pipes are correctly fitted, and i have swapped the ignition barrell over i did take the chip out and try with original key the car came with but have since swapped the barrell over and refitted the chip. the central locking all works fine??

Central locking has nothing to do with the pats.

Does the door led flash away when attempting a start?

A scan with vcds is the next logical step.

hi, i have just tried it, the door led stays fully illuminated once ignition switched on in this time i can crank/start engine, if leave a delay with ignition on the led flashes rapidly and then i cant crank the engine until i turn ignition off and back on and crank immediately. thanks, steve.

I think that means PATS is preventing you starting. VCDS would confirm. When you changed the barrel, did you disconnect the reader coil?

BTW don't have two car keys on your keyring - that can confuse the reader.

Hi the pats module is under the ecu has white wires going into it .There a pig to get to !!  The pats are coded to ecu . swap them and all will be well.

This a 2.0 ecu but the principles the same

Check the metal short support beams near which hold the dash for pats module . Your correct the Tcm/Ecm is in engine bay on mk2
