Hi

My interior lights are permanently on. Have to turn them off at the switch above the rear view mirror.

Have searched this site and tried the removing fuse trick, but it didn't work.

Are there any obvious/known culprits?

Where shall I start ???

Thanks

From a similar problem with my old 1996 2.8 Gal, I seem to recall the culprit was the tailgate switch?

Is there any warning from the door open alert on your dash?

Are you sure you removed the correct fuse as I blew my courtesty light fuse the other day and the fuse was not the one listed in the handbook? The fuse was one of those odd new mini spade types up the side rather than the normal spade type in the main block at the bottom?

After that it could be a stuck switch, relay or cable earthing to ground. The light works through a relay and timer and earths the lights to turn them on.

I had a similar problem last week (interior light flashing) It was caused by the rear passenger door switch. the rubber seal had split and was getting water in and shorting. Wonce I took the switch out and cleaned the connectors and fittet a new rubber seal it was fine.

It could be as others have suggested the rear hatch switch, the door switches or the courtesy light unit playing up! this is part of the central locking unit under the front passenger seat, the one thats prone to damp!

when mine stayed on permenantly it was one of the door switches, I bought a new one and just kept swapping it in turn with the existing switches till the lights went off! be careful though when unpluging the cables as they can disapear back inside the body work if you dont keep hold of them :o

Thank you for all the suggestions.

The door open dash light isn't on (I don't know if there even is one as I've never seen it!)

The tailgate may not be adjusted correctly, so will start there. I notice there is a little movement when it is closed.

Will remove door switches and short the connection sequentially.

Finally, I will ensure I tried the right fuse. I thought I had, but no harm in trying again.

For the record - I have fixed it!

Nimrod - right again!!! Thanks to the others who suggested it too. However it wasn't the only problem..

Obviously the previous owner was unable to cure it, so removed the bulbs from the rear tailgate area lights. Once the bulbs were replaced (and the holders reconnected - he really didn't want them to come on) then I adjusted the tailgate - and problem was sorted.

BUT the lights still stayed on, so Russ T was right on this one. It was a rear door light switch.

All sorted now. Thanks everyone.
