xavier Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 yozza mine seems to behave if I keep the tank topped up. I put a replacement unit in, fired up no problems. After a week started getting white smoke, after filling her up again now seems ok. Worth a try anyway! If it smokes with a full tank Then you're looking at replacing the glow plug or burning screen / gauze. Quote
chrislloydie Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Can anyone tell me how they attached the copper wires on the brushes to the coiled wire in the pump? My old ones seemed to be soldered together. How has everyone else attached them? Quote
xavier Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) I cut the wires to the brushes and soldered the new ones to the old leads. Think I have a pic somewhere. Need to learn how to upload them at some point! http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php/topic/25084-secondary-water-pump/ There ya go, check towards the end of that thread, will also should show the cocktail sticks holding the springs back to aid refitting. new nige Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Hello been away for a while no problems for a year or so. aux heater is smoky but working, tonight under cover of darkness went to change glow plug, done it previously with success 2 questions. 1 there is a bulge in the plastic cover toward the control wire end most posts with pics suggest a similar bulge, some comments suggest this is an inherent problem and nothing to worry too much about, any advice? 2 2no knackered nut heads has anyone overcome this with an easy out (its the long one in the end that gets hot hear the manifold and a short one on the plastic cover. any top tips on how to get these out appreciated the tork heads are no more . good to be back Quote
Galaxy23 Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Changed the brushes today in the run on pump------ quite a challenge.Anyway it is now working as it makes a buzzing type sound when the ignition is on.Done a check on the vag com after clearing the old fault codes and it Is still showing heater over temperature as a fault. The booster heater came on and appears to be working. Any ideas why I could still be getting this fault code ? Thanks Paul Quote
Galaxy23 Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Changed the brushes today in the run on pump. It now seems to be working as I can hear a buzzing type noise coming from it when the ignition is on. Also the booster heater is working. I cancelled the old fault codes on my vag com and the heater over temp fault code has shown its ugly head once more and I don't know why it is still showing this persistent fault code. Any ideas please?????? Quote
xavier Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 Air lock in the system? Does the heater stay on for any length of time or does it shut down quickly? Fire up VAG COM and monitor the temps in the heater would be the starting point. Quote
