As posted elsewhere, I am getting no power over 2K RPM from my 02 Mk 2 Galaxy. I've had a look at the turbo and it looks like its the wastegate actuator. It moves only a couple of mm, but the wastegate lever has some backlash and is quite free, it seems its the vacuum unit thats sticking. Anyone else experienced this problem? I intend to remove it on Saturday, so any input would be appreciated.

And as posted elsewhere, if its a Mk2 (or Mk1 AFN) it doesnt have a wastegate.

Its a variable vane turbo and the variable vane mechanism inside the turbo is the usual point of trouble (made up with carbon and gunge).

Thank you for our input, that was one of the things i was not sure about. I've looked at a few YouTube videos, ebay etc, and I was guessing.

I think I'll try the Innotec Turbo Cleaner. Although there are some mixed reports, on the whole results seem to be quite positive. I might also change the actuator, although with 180 thousand miles on it, I might consider a rebuilt turbo. Again, any advice will be appreciated.

I clicked on the "Like This" button on your post, but I got a message telling me I'd exceeded my quota for the day. Strange, because your's was the first one I'd "Liked".

If you choose to try the innotec turbo cleaner, id be keen to know what the results are as im considering using it on my turbo.

If I can get some locally, I'll try it this week-end. Bit to late to get it online by Saturday.

search the internet I'm sure something like brake cleaner or something like that does the same job ????

I got it up on a lift on Saturday. I didn't have any cleaner but managed to remove the mounting nuts on the vacuum actuator and then managed to get the lever to move back and forth a couple of mm at a time. I did this for a few minutes, it became freed up, and moved through what seems to be its full extent. Its now driving a lot better, with much more grunt, although its still got a bit of a lag when I press the accelerator. I still intend to use the Innotec treatment, although my pal who owns the garage recons carb cleaner will do the same thing. I'll be doing that in two weeks time, so I'll report back after that.

The car is an 02 model. which was bought from a pal, who had not started or moved it for almost two years. Lots of stuff had seized on it and it cost me

Since my last post, I've done the "Italian Tuneup", which is something I'm used to as my other car is an Alfa, and its getting better all the time. I'll still give the Innotec treatment a try in a couple of weeks time, and see how it goes.
