Guest Galaxya6 Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 I have a 1999 Galaxy Zetec 2.3. The electric windows on drivers side and passenger side will both open but fail to close. Both sides can be closed by locking the vehicle and holding the key for 3 secs so there is no problem with the motor(s). Have checked for breaks in the wires from A frame and no evidence of any breaks on either drivers side or passenger side. Have 12 V on the red / yellow wire on one of the switch commons, the other common (assume to raise windows) has no supply, this is a brown wire. Have checked the switch and it appears to be OK although the switch does appear to work in an unconventional way. Do not have a circuit diagram, would appreciate some help, can't really think of anything else to check, the fault is common to both sides on raise only (must be a common between the two missing ? Can I frig the switch to identify which feed is missing. Any ideas would be appreciated tearing my hair out at the moment ! Quote
Denis Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 A common problem used to be water under the passenger seat rotting a box of electronics that sits there- but possibly the box had been resited by the time the 99 models were produced. You could try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to reset the electronics, this has worked recently for a mate of mine who had a focus that wouldn't unlock the boot. Quote
Guest Andy Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 if you try to operate the drivers window and you hear a clicking coming from inside the door, then i would double check the wires from the a-post to the door,my wire(s) were not broken to the extent of the insulation snapped but after probing before and after the a-post two wires were found to be broken.quick solder up and running in no time. :o :o :D Quote
Guest Gary Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 I had window problems, and gave up trying to fix them. Drivers side switch didn't do anyhing to drivers window. Passenger side could be put down, but not up! Passenger switch operated passenger window OK. I was told that new motors were needed. I did check out the switches, which were OK. My friendly local garage had a look at my last MOT test, and found the drivers door rubber hinge wiring tube had a broken wire inside it! They resoldered it, and now everything is fine (but it took two hours to get the door panels off and replaced). If you have a similar problem, check this wiring first - it probably isn't the motor or switch! Guest Galaxya6 Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 Thanks for the responses, checked and double checked the wiring from plug to switch and also to the window motor plug. After everything checked out OK, replaced the window motor plug and Hey Presto the windows worked again. Must have been a problem with motor plug and socket not mating correctly:) Quote
janrapacz Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 I also have just found that all my electric windows won't go back up. They are all quite happy to go down but I have to use the key in the passenger side door lock to get them to go back up again. This happened the same time as the failure of my drivers door lock. It had started to get very stiff and on several occassions I found it very hard to remove the key. The driver;s door lock barrel rotates and I can remove it quite easily. Seems that whatever is connected to the back of the lock has come off. Looks like there is a groove for a circlip. I can't lock the driver's door at all! I suspect that the switch in the drivers door that is used to close the all the windows has in some way become disconnected and is causing this failure. The window motors all work OK as I can close all the windows from the door lock at the passenger side. The car is in the garage on Monday to have all this sorted out. More expense! Quote
