Hi Guys, just bought a 01 ford galaxy 1.9tdi 115bhp(not sure what mark this is).

Thinking there is a lot of problems coming down the line on this one but is lovely to drive at the moment.

Have had the brake lights gone on it all ready and bought a brake light switch and fitted it.....and it works so feeling good about that amazing piece of mechanical achievement by me.

My next problem I have is my wipers are just coming on themselves most of the time and when I push the stalk forward for the back wipers it stops the front wipers but I have the back wipers running the most of the time.

Anyone come across this before?

Can't say I've heard of that one before. Faulty wiper switch maybe?

I know, its strange,I thought it might have been something to do with the rain sensors and that I could somehow disable them as a cheap fix.

Some have had problems with the elecronic module that sits on the wiper motor. Water gets in and due to the conformal coat on the PCB not being done well, it corrodes the PCB tracks. Usual symptoms are wipers wont switch off, or go crazy. If you have a knowledge of electronics, soldering etc the module can often be fixed by removing, cleaning and repairing the damage.

New modules are very difficult to source and eye wateringly expensive. Second units may be available from ebay/scrappers.

I think there are some photos on the forum somewhere.....

Thanks for the info Seat.Is the motor and module behind the bulkhead and if I get a scrapper would it be a job I could do diy replacing it like for like?

My knowledge of electronics is nada although I just replaced my shower like for like!

Seatkid is right on this. I had the same problem. In my case it was partly caused by parking on a steep drive and the rain accumulated in the tray under the wiper motor. I drilled a couple of drain holes and the problem went away completely. Just hope that the damage is not permanent and the problem goes away as the motor warms up and dries.

Thanks for the info guys, took out the tray and drilled a hole.the motor did not seem to be wet any way.

Took out the three small nuts and then undid the big central nut and readt to lift up, the unit almost seems like it is threaded on,just not lifting of?

Sorry but the only thing I can add is that It may take a while to dry out this weather. I can only guess what is inside the motor. (Besides the motor of course) However, if pushing the stalk forwards stops it then it may be that the problem is simply associated with the stalk itself. If that is the case then we've been looking in the wrong place. Try checking the supply to the motor under fault/no fault and normal working conditions before struggling to take it out. If you can't get to the connections try sticking a pin or small needle through the wire to get a connection to give a connection for the meter. The wiring is a bit complicated because of the parking function which I believe is done by a short reverse action of the motor.

Life was a lot simpler before the bl00dy computers took over. :5:

Ah yes, but how would you have got all the info from the Forum?

:D  :D  :D

It's not the computers that are the problem, it's the folks who use them for simple tasks when they are not needed. Like replacing 3 heater control knobs with 20 or more buttons and a complicated display panel in a position which can only be read by someone lying down in the back seat. :angry2:
